The Stabbing in Fairfield

Remember the Fairfield man, Jonathan Edington who murdered his neighbor, Barry James?

The Connecticut Post reports that after a complete search of James' home they could find no evidence that would support a claim of child molestation. No pornography, no computer evidence, no magazines etc. that would indicate James would or could molest a child.

The article also said:

"Richard T. Meehan, who represents the James family, said they intend to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Edington within the next four weeks.

"The James family not only fully cooperated with police but voluntarily opened their whole house to police to do a complete search for any evidence, but police found nothing that would fit the profile of someone who would do the activity Mrs. Edington has accused Barry James of," he said. "The real mystery here is why this woman would make these allegations."

Meehan said James suffered nerve damage to his legs which made it difficult for him to climb stairs, meaning it would have been nearly impossible for him to crawl through a window more than 4 feet off the ground to get into the girl's room in the Edington home."

I know the house and it is a small house in a busy neighborhood-- so I still wonder how anyone could get into and out of that house, without waking up the family or the dog. I can't imagine a two-year old waking up to find a non-family member in her room without calling out to her parents.

I am still amazed at how many people were cheering for Edington, calling him a hero for killing James when they did not have the information necessary -- then or now -- to prove James guilty of being anything other than a neighbor.

It seems like the worse the "alleged" crime, the more people are willing to ignore reason and instead become a mob of blood-thirsty vigilantes.

I wonder if anyone's done a psychological study on Edington's wife? Since when does one person's account of what a toddler said become instant truth?

What a shame. I feel for all the people involved, but right now my heart truly goes out to the James family. And I feel for that little girl who will grow up thinking that something she said caused the death of a neighbor and a prison sentence for her father.

Because the above is such a sad story, I had to post another Finbar photo to leave you with a smile. Check out those paws! Scotty, can you see an EM?

i'll comment on the one with the cute picture.

it is sad. A lot of what the article is saying is stuff i brought up when it first happened. on the very top surface it seems vaguely plausible, but if you stop to think about it for even a moment, even with just the quick basic news story it just doesn't make any sense.

I think it's more of a chance for people to just get their blood thirsty "energy" out of their systems vicariously, with any excuse being a good excuse.

it's a sad thing.

But good thing we hvae those adorable kittens and puppies to make us smile each day. :)

I'm putting Sheryl's comment here...somehow I posted twice, once with photo and once without.

I don't think revenge murder is righteous, regardless if the person is guilty or not.

Whether he was guilty or not, is unknown. And we will probably never know.

I don't necessarily believe the murder victim's family's lawyer, although I don't necessarily not believe him.

I haven't seen statistically accurate and fact checked reports on what child molester's normally keep around. You can molest a child without keeping any indication around you.

Do we know that he had an injury and that he was truly incapable of crawling into a window? No. That may or may not be true.

I agree that the mother should be investigated. So should the history of the relationship between the neighbors. So should the police reports.

I do not necessarily believe or disbelieve the reports of the child's account - whether she was molested or not. Or, if she was molested, was it this particular person. (Her account sounds similar to my sister's foster daughter's account of her molestation, which was on tape.)

I am not convinced that anything is true or not true, except for one thing. That a man was killed.

Okay sorry about the double posting but blogger was not cooperating this morning.

Ilanna...Like Sheryl said, who knows what the real truth is, which is why it's so sad that a simple accusation becomes truth to so many people.

The truth might never be known now and what's left is broken families and heartbroken parents.

I drove down this street today and looked again at the houses. They are so close you could spit on one from the other.

There are children all over the street, decorated houses with pumpkins and skeletons and people on the lower end of Fairfield's income level attempting to make happy, normal homes.

I'm glad the post with the picture showed up. Because as you said, puppies and kittens and babies make us smile.

Dashababy, I have had no time lately but when I can breathe I need to take a good picture that shows just how big those mitts are!

I don't see a wolf...but I'll go look and reevaluate again...xoxo

Sheryl...you see clearly the truth that is known at this point.

It does seem so futile and foolish to have this tragedy end up with a "who knows" resolution. For all the parties involved.

that story has been disturbing from day one.

what about an evaluation of the dad too? And what exactly happened between his wife and Barry James? did she get flashed? no reason to fabricate a story so your husband becomes enraged and kills?

Your sweet cat is so dear. He is going to grow up to be a very handsome cat! And I really love your house too!

I started reading the post and got depressed so i scrolled down to the punchline ...
KITTY in a bowl! The animals in your world find comfort in the strangest places. Are you near powerlines?

Scotty, no powerlines, but the whole house is a tad nutty.
