Blood Brothers

In the last three weeks, 79 more American troops have died in the Iraq war bring the count to 2079. Many more have been injured and maimed.

Who knows how many Iraqi civilians have died. Is anyone counting?

A recent article in the Hartford Courant says that 30,000 Iraqi men, women and children have died, but the number is just an educated guess based on media reports.

Today, drinking my coffee and ready to start a day that can be either a good one or a bad one, depending upon how I choose to look at it, I mourn the deaths of 32,079 human beings caught up in a deadly game that has done nothing to advance peace or contain terrorism, but has brought the innocent together to bleed side by side.

I probably shouldn't look at it this way, but i stay away from that part of the news. I refuse to read about it. It's just so depressing and i don't agree with this Godforsaken war.

Ever since this war has begun, every day is a bad day.

The pain and hurt this ridiculous war is causing in America is starting to show. GWB's approval rating is dropping like a stone, and he's responding the only way he knows how - not by modifying his policies or actions but by attacking those who question them.

But he's running afoul of P.T. Barnum's law: You can't fool all of the people all of the time.

When good and decent people like you continue to speak out, it does make a difference. The things we never challenge are the things that never change.

I like Nilbo's comments.
I don't like the news either although my hub is addicted and he emails me links, we watch the shows, etc. It's very depressing and for what?

I've hit the point where I just don't want to know. No, I don't want to be an ostrich, but I really just can't lessen my sickened reaction to what our current government (not just Bush, the whole darn thing) is doing to its citizens. I'm proud of those who fight and I mourn those who died. I just don't want to know the numbers any more. All of them were people and just a few people dead are more than enough.

I'm with all of you on attempting to stay away from the war news - even Bush news for that matter -- but while our lives go on...this mess is still going on too...and it sickens me.

Today I just couldn't put it out of my mind...

I think we've got to look at it. Who'se going to change things if we don't?

It's like parenting. It's easy to sit back and watch your kid throw the sugar packets around the restaurant. It's harder still to get up off the chair walk around the table in front of everyone and take the naughty one to task.

I can't wait for change. 2008 is just too far away. I knew in Nov. we were fucked. It killed me. And now we're stuck unless some act of Goddess befalls him and Dick at the same time. (oh please, oh please...)

That's why I put a photo up on Sorryeverybody.com

I am. So sorry.

I agree with Lauren -

I continually post about things even though it is difficult to deal with.

As many of you saw on veteran's day, I honored my Stepfather who fought in Vietnam.

I talk to him all the time about this war...and as much as he loves the troops and the US he cannot believe what is going on here.

It is tragic, but we have to keep talking about it and hopefully things will change!

Kitsune! What a treat to see your name back on my blog. Hope all is well with you, and as always you bring thoughtful comments here for us to ponder and debate. (Happy IT guys? I thought that was an oxymoron?)

Bradley - the perspective of someone like your stepfather means so much...someone who has lived long enough to see history repeating itself in some ways and thankfully reinforcing that the most patriotic Americans can still have opinions other that those of the Prez.
