Last Night’s Debate
I caught some of the Lamont/Lieberman/Schlesinger debate and was so put off my Schlesinger’s comedic style. Who does he think he is, a stand-up comic?
This is not a funny race; this is a most serious race where people are going to choose to back G. Bush’s plans and vote for the man who couldn’t get his party’s endorsement (Lieberman) or vote for the newcomer who isn’t saturated in Washington politics or beholding to anyone other than his wife, (Lamont).
Few people will vote for Schlesinger and after watching him on TV that’s a good thing. He may be a laugh at the craps table, but he’s laughable if you try to picture him as a senator.
Lieberman, no matter what happens on Election Day, has had his comeuppance, not just in the primary but also as a three-term senator sitting on the stage with the likes of Schlesinger. Lieberman’s running for his life, his way of life, his very self image and his income. He’s a senator and he wants to stay a senator and he hasn’t had a job in a long, long time. (I can almost hear him say: vote for me or I’ll have the biggest temper tantrum you’ll ever see.)
Lieberman almost lost it when an audience member tried to drown him out when he accused Lamont of spreading lies. That’s no way to treat a senator you know.
From the top of the ivory tower, Lieberman has plummeted to just another Independent running for office because he couldn’t get his party’s nomination.
He’s down from his lofty perch and is even down in his position on the ballot.
My hope is that his total votes are also down and that Lamont wins the seat.
Someone said if we want to change what’s happening in Washington, we have to change who we send there.
So Ned, almost everyone I know is voting for you. I hope that my friends and family are indications of how Election Day goes and that you stir up things in Washington.
It’s time.

I think election day in general this year is going to be a very interesting affair. I'll be watching fairly closely i think just to track how the seats go...
You are right thought - lieberman sounds a lot like a crybaby...gee that sounds really familiar in some ways. :)
Ilanna, HI! I agree that for a non-presidential year, it's going to be an exciting election night.
I love to stay up late watching the returns. I camp out on the sofa and bring plenty of snacks. I hope we can get some Dems elected to bring in some checks and balances to the Bush regime, I mean presidency.
heh - both delaware senators are democrats. and our congressman is about as left wing of a republican that you can get.
i love our congressman mike castle and agree with a lot of his policies and beliefs.
i like tom carper
but i absolutely do not like joe biden - i am kind of warming up to him but you know. he is running for president in 08 so i dont know if thats a good thing or not.
although there are rumors of Barack Obama running for president in 08 too and I will vote for him in a heartbeat.
as for this election - most of my voting is for locals not federal.
Ms Mini!! Very interesting politicians you mention..Obama is my choice but I'd hoped he'd have more years to mature before his presidency...I really do think he will be president one day.
I think barack is getting too overexposed and is pissing off too many people. I think he needs to wait til 2012 maybe.. 08 i think is too soon. but we'll have to see.
I wish we lived in connecticut again just so we could vote for this race. lieberman...I could never understand why Gore picked him. Maybe Gore knew all along and his heart just wasn't in it to be the president, so he picked Lieberman.
I hope EVERYONE gets out and votes. Please.
Have you noticed how -oh how remarkebly-gas prices are going down right before elections.
Gets my blood boiling. Gas is cheap and we hear nothing of Iraq. "Everyhting is fine here, so let's keep all the good old boys in office, they are doing one bang up job!"
Ilanna, I'd like to see Obama as the candidate of the future, but I do not believe Clinton can win and I fear that the dems will go with Hillary and she'll lose.
PG - Gore didn't want to be associated with Clinton after the Lewinsky affair, and Lieberman trashed Clinton so it seemed like a good idea.
I don't like the fact that Lieberman dumped his first wife for being "less orthodox" than he was and then he plays holier than thou.
Yes, I've noticed how gas is down and the prez is now through with his stay the course talk, but his new mantra means stay the course...how many people will be fooled I wonder?
Oh MoMar! I am not fond of anyone that throws religion into the mix of politics or uses it to be judgemental, however I still believe that Lieberman is a good honest person. By voting for the Greenwich fellow you are giving credence to the notion that any fool with money can influence the masses. I feel loyalty for Lieberman. He is one of the few politicians who has been brave enough to vote against party lines. The only reason Lamont is where he is, is because he used his money to blast the public with his message. He didn't earn anything. It is a rare thing to survive the bs of politics and still be untouched by scandal, yet running for the senatorial race . It ain't so mucking fuch to buy that spot. Lieberman may not have made all of the votes you thought he should have, but at least you knew he voted the way he did because he thought he was doing the right thing. Money shouldn't replace years of service. Money doesn't make you smart, instill good taste, or provide a glimpse into the lives of middle class Connecticut residents.
I think I may have lost faith in politics when GWB was voted into office. How can an entire country be smoking crack?
I just fell off my soap box and have to go ice my ankle.
xo
I disagree anonymous -- money Lamont's money, was the only reason a credible challenge was made against Lieberman. Lieberman is spending more last I checked but his money comes from special interest groups (like Republicans!) and he "owes" people now...Lamont can be more of a man true to his values because it's coming out of his own pocket.
Lieberman voted key votes with the right wing, as in Terry Schiavo, school vouchers, morning after pill after a rape being selective per hospital, and the big one, Iraq war.
He considers Karl Rove a friend and vice versa. If you can be a friend to Rove than you are one of his ilk in my opinion.
Remember primary day when all the news could talk about was how Joe's website was hacked by (must-be) Lamont supporters? Notice how nothing ever came out of that.
It was nothing but a Rovian ruse used to divert attention from the real issues and create a scandal -- the effects of which might still be being seen.
Lieberman also thumbed his nose at the CT Democrats who told him we don't want you, only all people who voted for him in the primary (the Majority) were then labeled anti-American or just plain dumb.
If the people of CT vote for Lieberman than they are voting for more war. Last month we lost 100 troops because of a Bush lie or Bush's stupidity.
It's too important now to keep pro-war Repubs or Repubs in Dem's clothing OUT of office.
Joe's not the worst, I agree, but he is part of the problem and once elected his Indepent ego will convince him, as Bush's does, that he's right about everything.
Lieberman has had some scandal if you consider he divorced his first wife and sited differences of religious devotion as one of the reasons. He had two young children at the time. (Can't find the source right now as I'm running late...) If anyone knows more about this please let me know.
Maybe he should have "stayed the course" in his marriage!
And, he attacked Clinton with his goody two shoes morality - turning against his own president from his own party. Some friend and some loyalty.
Thanks for stopping by!!!!
