The Blogistics of Blogarithms

Certainly yesterday’s topic was not so scintillating that I should receive 123 visitors to my blog – but I did according to my stat meter. (95 unique visitors who’ve never come my way before.) Twenty new visitors in 4 minutes!

Tchotchkes, Tchotchkes, get your red hot tchotchkes!

I found this amazing and tried to figure out why.

It was as if someone had placed a funnel over my blog and above the funnel was a vortex that snatched up wandering bloggers and threw them into the swirling eddy, down through the funnel and right into Tchotchkes.

Bizarre.

Does anyone know why this would happen? Has it ever happened to you? If you happen to be one of the people who were dumped into my blog against your will yesterday, will you please tell me how you got here?

Since I wasn’t giving anything away, I can’t find a single reason why there’d be such a rush to my blog.

Also, my stats tell me that “turd eating,” “self amputation” and “testicle waxing” are the three main reasons that google searchers come to visit.

What can I say but I’m honored.

someetimes i get stuck in the 'Next Blog' loop.. many people will come and then.. never come back.

I have noticed that this will happen a few days in a row and then not again for a few months.

Rita, you're not only beautiful, you're brilliant! That has to be what has happened...it is the only thing that makes sense.

Thanks!

Whoa...that's never happened to me although I did come close to 100 visitors. It's a blogger burp.

MB: Please don't be freaked out but I posted some strange stuff that I think you may find facinating. Come by when you get a moment.

Nah, not brillant.. the first time it happened I batted my eyelashes at my computer and said you love me, you really love me

then felt really silly a few days later when i figured out what the deal was.

jeff,
mb's place is a part of my daily routine too. and i have to call it a 'daily routine' because my list of blogs i love is getting biger and bigger... this is all Summers fault by the way.. I used to only read four blogs.. I found her then it all went to pot. now officially addicted.

I've taken to wearing a sandwich board which says
http://marybishop.blogspot.com/

on it. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

Good morning Mary. Youre on my route as well. I have a "couple" blogs I read and yours is definitley a must read for me. As for all the visitors yesterday,,, all I can say is "its all about the hair baby". I didnt have time to comment yesterday as I had to go curl my hair with those evil hot rollers. Burnt the holy crap outta my fingers. My flat iron and curling iron both broke in the same day. Im really not a fusser of the hair but I had to go out and market myself hoping to get some business. I hate that but we gotta do what we gotta do. Its a proven fact for me that I can sell more with curls than without. When I was 19, I sold jewelry door to door and on the days that I curled my hair, I sold everything but on the days I didnt, I only sold about half as much.

Could it be as simple as "word is getting out"?

wow, I don't think I've EVER had that many people visit my blog. Granted, mine is a pile of self-obssessive triteness - and no, it's not self modesty, that's why I made the darned thing! I have noticed peaks though - which often happen with the Next Blog loop, I'm assuming. My peaks NEVER coincide with my topics. and the searches, well, you know all about the searches. :) Kudos to you! Let's see who can break the MB blog record next!

Once, and only once, my blog was the third blog listed on the blogger home page. I got over 350 hits in one day!

That's when Sparklestone started biting his nails again. He hates it when I have proof that I'm more popular than him.

And speaking of hair, you gotta see the pics of his mangey mutt.

Now MB has mangey mutt going for her. Maybe you'll be on the Blogs of interest. I 'm still trying to figure out why Blogger put David Duchovny on the list. He made me yawn.

I am NOT biting my nails. They are long and lustrous.

Three friggin' hundred and friggin' fiffrigginty hits, tho! That was just not fair!

I'm with Dasha, it's the hair.

It might be because you have been syndicated by www.ctweblogs.com which covers Connecticut Blogs. They link all your new blog entries and post the latest entries at the top of the list with a screen shot of your site and a leader on your entry. Your site was linked two or three times yesterday. See: http://www.technorati.com/search/marybishop.blogspot.com/?all=1

Summer..I can almost take self amputation better than turd eating...it's a toss up.

Jeff..you are so dear to come by daily and I miss you when I don't see you...

LB - I loved your post today...so interesting..I need to see more of his art. Great post about Henry Darger over at Mindful Things folks!

Rita, ditto, it's all Summer's fault...no one read my stuff and then LB started to comment and she had Summer on her list of cool blogs and the rest is history.

Sparky - it's either the sandwich board of the waxed testicle talk...

Dashababy - I see your picture and you're a beauty with or without curls...but I do think curls have the advantage over straight...I'd love to have them but can't bear the work to get them...

Nilbo..YOU put me on your blogroll which is probably why I'm so hot...oh must put that in the past tense...today I had 22 visitors...more like what I am used to...

Echrai! You and trite never belong in the same sentence!

Please remember I don't have a full time job, nor am I also going to law school like you, my dear - so when you post it is always a treat and an effort because you are so busy..let's not forget BK and Mexico either...

Sylow - you must have flipped - 350 hits oy vey I'd most likely cry or laugh till I cry or do something wild if I ever got to be a featured blog...was it that superb and moving entry that you wrote that brought me to tears that made Sparky Marymock which made me mock back and cause us all to become fast friends?

PG - DD? I yawn too...

Sparky - can you please post a photo of your nails? I'll bet you'd get numerous hits...or you could do some reflectoporn (see laurenbove.blogspot for yesterday's entry...)

Closet Metro - okay, I really admire your judgment...maybe it is all about hair and nothing more...hair does have a universal interest...everyone's got some somewhere...usually we have more where we don't want it than where we do want it...yup - hair could be the reason...

TOM! holysmoly - thank you for notifying me of my "fame" that I didn't know I had. Pretty nice advertising for Tchotchkes, especially since it was free. Thanks again for sending me to something I didn't know existed...

(They like me they really like me...)

Hello- Just thought I'd share how I found your blog: I went to my husband's blog (also on Blogger) and, as I normally like to do after reading his post, I click on the "Next Blog" button at the top right. You get sent to some other random blog (different ones every time). I read yours, down to the "Puts the Fun in Funeral" entry--which was fabulous, although I really feel for you!--and on that basis, I have been wandering back to visit it directly since then! I enjoy your posts.
