Happy Monday

Saturday night I dreamed that the world had come to a virtual end. I was still alive, looking for other survivors among the twisted metal and piles of bricks and debris.

It was eerie to say the least. I was amazing calm in my dream, telling myself that this was no time for hysteria; I had a lot of work to do as my intentions were to seek out my family members and find who, if any, were left alive.

I woke up in an odd mood on Sunday. The dream had left a melancholy veil over my usually happy-to-be-alive perkiness. I still have some lingering feelings deep inside of me.

I keep hoping that the Middle East will settle down. People will do what is necessary to save themselves and their families from waking up for real, in the world I described above.

I am an eternal optimist. I believe that good triumphs over evil; that we are all brothers and sisters and we all want the same, simple things in life: the safety and happiness of our family; a roof over our heads, something good to eat and a nice fitting pair of jeans.

--------

Saturday, husband gifted me with a new and very expensive metal bird feeder. He likes it because the perch has a weight control device -- if a squirrel or a big bird like a Starling or Mourning Dove lands on the perch it shuts off the area where the seed is stored.

Only little birds can eat at this feeder and the top is sloped so no birds can stay there for long…they slide off, moving their feet as fast as Roadrunner but getting nowhere until they eventually slip off the roof.

I’m not so crazy about this birdfeeder. One reason is I’m afraid that little birds will be at the feeder craning their tiny necks into the seed trough and a big bird will land and they’ll be decapitated. Husband says this can’t happen but I’m still concerned.

The other problem is the slippery slope of the roof…I’ll admit I laughed as big birds careened off the roof, but it’s like laughing at someone who slips on a banana peel. You get the initial reaction of nervous laughter then the secondary reaction of shame for laughing.

Then there’s the design. It looks like it was manufactured on another planet. It is not aesthetically appealing. I guess the old wooden one covered in bird poop wasn’t real pretty either.

So I, like my birds, will adjust to the new feeder. I’d better adjust as it cost about $80 for this high-tech, anti-squirrel, anti-pest bird feeder!

I'm sorry but this sounds like discrimination! I can see them picketing now.
The other day a pigeon perched outside my window and stared me down. Kinda creepy, don't piss off the birds, you saw the movie!!

No bird heads in the feeder yet Jackie. What happened to your foot? I'm sorry to hear you have a booboo. Take care of yourself!!

Dashababy, yup it is discrimination and profiling. I'm afraid to go outside because I know the big birds have it in for me now...!

We do all want the same thing and its a shame that we're not allowed to have it.

My dad went to vote not long ago, and he wanted to vote for republican and democrat. He was told he was not allowed to- only straight ticket. In the presidential election he could mix it up, but not the local elections.

WTF? Where is the democracy in that?

Lawbrat - I can't imagine why he wasn't able to split his ticket. In my state you can do that.

There was some bill passed in Michigan. You used to be able to do that, but not anymore. Talk about an infringment on rights.

Lawbrat it just doesn't seem constitutional does it?

God, you people bring the Constitution into everything. It is not the RIGHT of squirrels to eat at a bird feeder. The Supreme Court decided that in Chip n Dale v. Tweety.

Next thing you know, some mosquitoes will be suing over the right to bare arms.

I havent had a nightmare/dream that I have remembered in a while...they come and they go. When I do have them they are really vivid and I even feel pain its so freaky. They are always in color and remember everything when I wake up and sometimes I have to realise, hey it was just a dream. Do you dream in color too?

I've been thinking about your dream, and I know how it is to wake up and have a funny feeling the rest of the day. It's like you can't shake the dread.

I'm surprised you didn't find Lieberman or Rove in the twisted metal. But that's been on your mind, and the Middle east has taken a backseat to this calamity.

I think the little birds should be fine. There should be enough seed on the ground for the big guys.

So, what color are the shutters across the street?

"The Supreme Court decided that in Chip n Dale v. Tweety." Too funny - now that's going to stick in my mind and pop up when I least expect it and make me laugh at an inappropriate time! Thanks Nilbo. Your gems are collecting somewhere inside of me...I rarely forget them.

Jackie, another day towards healing and I hope you're feeling better sweet pea.

Marko...I have never felt pain in a dream...but I usually dream in color. In my end of the world dream, there was a lot of gray, but I can remember the yellow sun and thinking...well, they didn't blow up the sun, so there's hope for new life.

PG - Shutters are a forest green and very acceptable with the yellow of the house. It really is cute to look at...so when I stand at my sink I look out now at a really pretty sight.

The big birds are still very happy because as you said, they get plenty of seed that falls on the ground and the suet feeder and peanut butter and seed feeders are still available to them... the feeder itself is still ugly though...
