Cats Prefer Crap

We thought we had a success on our hands when Fin gobbled up his first human grade beef muffin...I call it a muffin because it was frozen in muffin tins then put into a ziplock bag.

Meal two and three of meat muffins were sniffed at and summarily dismissed.

He then went to the cabinet where his by-product/digest/corn and chemical canned food sits and attempted to open the door with his huge pedestal paw. I got the picture.

Fin's a big fan of butter. Maybe if we'd sauted the $4.00 plus a pound ground beef in butter he'd have liked it more. Maybe he doesn't like the veggies or the urinary health ingredients: blueberries and cranberries. Maybe I can feed it to husband? Mother-in-law?

One thing I do know, the dogs love it. They are not fussy:they are so cool about eating that they (pre-clumping litter) would eat the turds right out of the litterbox.

Thank god for dogs and men. Both will eat almost everything.

The thing that amazes me it the diverse range in the so called "quality" of food affected. On one hand you have a brand that is "beaks and feet" on the other you have "choice nutro sci space cat food" A huge price range between them yet both contain the same crap made by the same cat killing company.
I was lucky. PEN only eats food made by the 25% that is not affected.

Gavin, From what I've learned, there are factories that cook up a stew of anything animal, mineral, vegetable slop, usually close to if not totally inedible, and make this starter stew which they sell to brand named pet food makers who add a dash of this and a pinch of that and call it their own.

Road kill and euthanized animals, medical supplies, rotting meats etc. go into that stew...gross. But, apparently still better than home-made kitten food!

I get my dog food from a rescue group that makes their own. But it's dry food anyway. I never do wet food for the dogs, b/c they will tend to get lazy and the dry food is better for their teeth. But before this I had used wellness which is also good for allergies etc. I stopped using them when they becamse a little more corporate about their policies, but they still make a high quality food that wasn't affected by the recall. Good lucky sweetie - I was thinking about you and finbar this weekend when petting my friend's maine coon. :) (he's a big boy, bigger than the two other cats, who are over weight, and the vet is saying that he is underweight. Gotta love it! :) )

Gavin, it's totally edible -- I'd eat some except it's bland tasting. The dogs love them frozen or thawed. The cats are not interested in any food that doesn't come from a Fancy Feast can or isn't butter. I even buttered the top of one of these muffins and they still had no interest.

Finbar does like rare roast beef and $18 a pound gray sole. And butter as I said before...real butter, not any kind of spread.

Land o' Lakes especially.
