An Italian Jewel

You can keep your jewelry stores.

Just let me in to an Italian Importing store and I'll be much happier.

Yesterday we found a gem right by my dentist's office. What a great little corner of the world to be the home of a super dentist, Dr. Kozinn, and a fantastic Italian Importing store, Nick and Sal's.

Nic and Sal's is both a deli and a catering service, and the store is filled with so many wonderful smells, meats, cheeses and breads you won't be able to leave without a big bag of delicacies to take home and enjoy.

We bought delicious provolone cut from a big round and parmigiana regiano cheese for eating and for grating over pasta dishes. A long baguette of crunchy sesame bread and a stick of pepperoni and we raced home to open up some wine and enjoy. (I should have bought some olives dammit!)

A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and thou is pretty good, but a loaf of bread, a jug of wine and CHEESE is even better, especially when the "thou" hangs around too.

Linda, who is the store manager, is a doll and I met Nick but not Sal yet. Nice, nice people in an impeccably clean store filled with the freshest and most authentic Italian food I've seen in a long time -- well who could ask for more?

Try to eat a diamond.

ahhh - i remember places like that. We had a place on Long island that we used to go to all the time.

I remember when I was making pesto for an italian class project - and my father blew a gasket because i bought all the ingredients at Valencia (including locatelli romano cheese) but oh man - that was the best pesto i'd ever had. :)

(it's a shame that i'm just not interested in that kind of food right now :( )

Thomas, Um, hmmm, not sure but I didn't see any bulges under the shirt...hahahhaha Be safe!!

Ilanna, I haven't had pesto in ages...soon though we'll be planting the garden and maybe our home grown garlic will also give a good yeild and then I'll indulge with platefuls!! (You poor baby, I guess you are still in the Saltine stage. Soon it will pass and you have a couple of months of eating until the heart burn stage rears it's ugly head...but all worth it as you know!!!!)

Nilbo, when we lived in the south we looked far and wide for good Italian food whether in a restaurant or a grocery store...forget about it. Just wan't available. I'm happy to say that there are three good stores all within a reasonable distance that sell great imported foods. Lucky me.

Funny thing is that I feel safer here in Baghdad than some parts of my native New Orleans :) Of course, I bet soldiers from Da Bronx don't think it is too dangerous here, either.

Once I move up to the Big Apple, I'll have to do some travels into CT, plus I want to visit a shul that gave me some wonderful Chanukah gifts. Too bad Stars Hollow isn't a real palce.

I had to look up Stars Hollow - you are a true trivia head I'll bet!!

True, safety is an illusion...at any time at any place we are at the risk of danger.

Hey Linda and Bradley! It's finally snowing in Connecticut and I love it! Of course, I'm warm and cozy in my nightgown with the fireplace pumping out heat and absolutely no where to go today. Glorious!
