After Thanksgiving Fatigue

Wow – I feel like I usually feel the week after Christmas – extra tired, extra full, socially scheduled to the max and longing for a night to hang out in front of the fire and do nothing.

This has been the busiest of Thanksgiving holidays ever.

I’ve been a guest and been a host.
I’ve ingested, digested and indigested-- all the while being congested.
I’ve had over-nighters and all-nighters.
I’ve put out turkey decorations and cut down a Christmas tree.
(I didn’t cut it, but watched the process with hot chocolate laced with peppermint schnapps – which is quite nice!)
I’ve consumed more champagne this holiday than I normally do at Christmas time.
I’ve consumed more TUMs this holiday than I normally do at Christmas time.
I’ve visited more friends and relatives than I normally do at Christmas time.

Does this mean I’m going to have a lonely, boring Christmas holiday?

Somehow that idea sounds pretty good right now.

But give me a few days to get back to normal life and I’ll be grateful for the hustle bustle of the next holiday.

I hope.

Sounds wild and crazy. But then again, isn't that what life is all about? I think a quiet xmas would be faboo...I doubt it'll happen. Something tells me xmas is going to be wilder and crazier than Tday.

I hope you don't have a lonely Christmas, I highly doubt you will. I've ingested too much and now my skin is congested with loose skin!! (= Gobble!!

Sounds like a fun time was had, sans the tums.
Enjoy the fire.

Sounds like you had a picture perfect time! My favorite holiday of all.

If you go to the mall to shop, that alone could make you want a quiet Christmas.

Hi MB -

one reason that you are not tired...below...

Pulled from a site I saw recently...

Does the tryptophan in turkey make you sleepy after eating a big Thanksgiving turkey dinner?

Sorry to say, that if you're looking for the sedative effect, it's unlikely you'll get it from eating meats like turkey. L-tryptophan doesn't act on the brain unless you take it on an empty stomach with no protein present. Additionally, the levels found in a turkey dinner are far, far too low to have such an effect. So, even though the mass media, CNN and Fox like to hype it and blame post holiday meal sleepiness on the turkey dinner... that's just a catchy sound-bite.. not the reality. The trypophan isn't to blame for the sudden drowsiness that hits right after the meal when the football games come on, and the dishes are waiting!

Interesting :)

*sigh* I know the feeling. Our Christmas holiday was wonderful. All of my family (sans sister) showed up and spent time together. The only one not around who I really wished could have been was B. However, my brother's family won't be appearing for Christmas. My parents are leaving the day after for Florida. Worst of all, Christmas falls on a weekend, so I only get one extra day off work. I got more than that for Thanksgiving!!! (then again, I will be very rapidly quitting post Christmas, so it's not all bad!!! Woo hoo! Hopefully I can work in a midwinter vacation before starting something new.)

What this means is, you will definitely have to have a fun Xmas so I can live vicariously through you. :) And I'll share my small and boring one so we can both have the best of both worlds.

You DEFINITELY need an evening in front of the fire. Maybe with another cup of that hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps!

Thanks everyone for commenting. Yesterday was stomach virus day and today I woke up with a tooth ache.

I'll be a better communicator when I can wake up and feel normal for a change!

Bradley - thanks for debunking the turkey/sleep myth.

E - you're quitting your job? Hurray - no more Echrai to kick around...I'm so behind in everyone's life...

sorry...but I can't seem to find any time lately to do the fun stuff...

We went for a Puerto Rican Pork Roast on Thanksgiving coupled witha turkey breast.

Just mix up some orange juice, garlic powder, oregano, black pepper, salt, and as much red or hot pepper as you can stand, marinade over night, and roast it in the marinade, basting frequently. Then make a sauce out of the pan droppings with a little cornstarch. The whole thing is done in a slow cooker by the way, on high until meat is tender
