Blah-ging

I’m blah. Sorry I’m not around much lately.

I seem to have lots of loose ends to deal with like– car repairs, an abscessed tooth (tomorrow I go to the dentist), and other mundane and or torturous crappy things I must do. Plus, my stereo isn’t working right.

I hate to use this space to whine…so I tend not to write when I feel overwhelmed.

I am writing with my sunglasses on… (tres chic!) because I left my regular glasses in my car which husband had to take to work because his car decided to fall apart this past week and is in the shop.

Every Christmas that I can remember we have pre-Christmas car problems. Mine or his or one year we actually had two non-working cars on Christmas Eve. Even the tow truck guy seemed sorry for us.

He used a very pleasant voice when he said: Which car do you want me to tow first?

I personally seem to acquire holiday root canals.

Sometime between Dec. 1st and Jan. 1st, I’ve had at least three root canal problems that needed immediate attention. I am hoping that tomorrow, the dentist will say, “Let me drill that tooth and fill that tooth and send you on your way.
Hope springs eternal, doesn’t it?

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth (fixed!)

Front teeth problems cause me more anxiety than the ones in the back. I’m always waiting for the dentist to say: “I’m sorry this tooth needs to be pulled and you will have to walk around with a big space in the front of your mouth until after the holidays or maybe forever.

“So, go ahead, put on that sparkly top you bought to wear to that holiday party coming up – and you’ll still look like a hockey player.”

I’ve always had a fear of losing teeth either through accident or disease, losing teeth is one of my recurrent dreams….

Blah blah blah.

This is the exact reason I haven’t written anything lately. I’m in a doltish period and when my stereo doesn’t work right I’m twice as doltish and blue.

I’m going to go and jiggle some speaker wires.

Maybe I can fix it. Maybe the garage will call saying the car is fixed. Maybe the dentist will fix my front tooth.

I need a fix.

So what do you like to listen to on your stereo when it works? I'm always curious as to what kind of music people like.

I hope your tooth gets fixed before the car. Having bad teeth all my life, I kinda know what you are going thru. Last year I finally had the front teeth capped because the fillings had fallen out a too many times. So I had to go around for a few weeks with the temporary plastic Chicklette looking teeth. Drinking hot liquids was a challenge too, I felt like my teeth were going to melt. I swear I felt like Walter Matthau in Dennis the Menace when Dennis broke Mr. Wilsons dentures, he replaced them with Chicklettes.
I love that movie. It's pretty cute.

Hi Dashababy - sorry you have the crappy teeth problem...I'll bet your front teeth look gorgeous with their new caps. My insurance company won't cover caps..the dentist will have to sculpt me up a tooth in white goop and cover it in clear nail polish I guess.

I love all kinds of music: favorite classical piece is Brahms violin concerto in D major

New group I love is The Ditty Bops, two harmonious female voices with some unusal lyrics in their songs.

I love The Great Big Sea for the kind of music that gets you drinking beer and thumping the table.

I adore the standards, whether sung by new artists like Renee Olstead or the divas like Billy Holiday and Carmen MacRae.

I love Leonard Cohen when I'm in a dark mood and Jennifer Warnes when I'm in a gray mood and Carly Simon in most any mood.

I'm also liking the Black-eyed Peas - maybe because I love their name!

Wow, talk about diverse.....
I'm always surprised to hear that a women likes Leonard Cohen. Most people I know, don't even know who he is but if you've heard him then you don't forget,, not one of my favorites tho. I use to work in a salon and the owner would play Leonard and we got some mixed responses.
I haven't heard of most of the artists you named. I'm more of a Motown, funk, country,,,, oldies type person.
You crack me up btw,,,, "white goop and cover it in clear nail polish...." Funny :)

MMM, I've got the crappiest teeth around and usually, spring something in my mouth (requiring much dental work) around the holidays. 2 years ago, I got terrible strep throat and during the height of the sickness, cracked a back molar resulting in a big gaping hole and then a crown.

I worry about the front teeth too but my worries are more fixated on my receding gums. Oy! I'm hoping my girl gets husbando's teeth genes!!

Just when you think you know somebody ...

... they turn into a Great Big Sea fan (the "The" is superfluous). These are good buddies of mine from Newfoundland and if people haven't heard their music they should check it out. Which CD are you listening to?

MB...as a music guy, not having the stereo sounds bad.

Dashababy - lots of people have missed Leonard Cohen either by circumstances or design! My husband can't stand his voice - but I'm a sucker for the gravelly no-voice, voice.

AMK - why is it some of the nicest people I know have crappy teeth? I have spent a fortune on my teeth and they reward me by snap, crackle and popping!

Nilbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May I kiss the hem of your robe? You know Great Big Sea? omg...I'm so impressed.

I love UP, Road Rage, Sea of No Cares, hell I love them all...

Bradley, you are a sweetheart! Of course you know what I'm feeling... I just wish I knew wiring. We've got the whole house wired, even a shut off knob in the kitchen so when the phone rings I can cut down the music...lots of wires running through the attic and down the walls. I have no idea where the problem lies. I am lucky that I have a friend who's a part time sound guy...so if it isn't fixed soon, he's coming over for dinner and a consultation!

JDJ - JOey? Oh dear man, you are in a bad way. There had to be a Law and Order version on TV -- anything but Joey...

William..you are such a dear man...thanks for stopping by...the tooth has survived (so far) and me too. Thanks for caring...

Weniggluckiches -- you got it baby...I'm sick of stuffing uber dollars in their pockets...

I hate teeth...take them all out I say...those are the words that make a dentist shiver...

It occurs to me that this is perfect opportunity for one of your Christmas "kits". You clearly need to order a do it yourself root canal kit and a car repair kit for Christmas. :) Actually, that's a pretty bad joke. I hope your tooth feels better. There's nothing worse than a tooth ache.

Michelle, do you know I haven't asked for a single kit this year...what's happening to me?

Thanks everyone...tooth has been drilled and filled and doesn't hurt one bit. I'm such a candy pants...

OMG: I cannot believe Nilbo knows the GBS. Tell him I need Alan's autograph on a cute (hopefully naked) photograph of himself. LOVE THEM! Road Rage is my fav. I saw them in concert recently at Toad's in New Haven. They were so incredible.

On to the fix... you are a great person and so fun to know, even if it's only on blogland. I hope all your troubles evaporate...if only via big glassfulls of redredwine.

xoxo
