Tonight I Sleep with Ivory

Leg Cramps anyone?

Today I read in the local paper that if you place a bar of Ivory soap under your bottom bed sheet, you won’t wake up in the night with leg cramps.

I read this in an “Ask the Doctor” column. He said he has no idea why it works, but it just works.

I’ve blamed leg cramps on too much to drink (alcohol) and not enough to drink (water).

I’ve blamed them on wearing heels for too long and wearing flats for too long.

I’ve blamed them on exercising and not exercising.

I’ve blamed them on too much calcium and not enough calcium.

Leg cramps hurt like a summanabitch.

They make me jump out of bed and hop around causing sleeping dogs and cat to jump up and bark or meow (as the case might be) and run wildly around the bedroom causing husband to wake up and hiss and growl, “What the hell’s the matter with you?”

Night-time drama and adrenaline rushes are just not something I’m into…so Ivory Soap is coming to bed with me tonight. I hope this trick works. I’d love to be 99.99 percent free of leg pains and I’d love to pull the plug on this nocturnal soap opera.

If a bar of Ivory soap kept kids from swearing in the 1950s, I hope it can keep leg cramps away in 2006.

In this case, hope definitely floats.

What a strange remedy...tell us if it works. I hope it does. I don't tend to get them, but my boyfriend woke up at some overly early hour of the morning with a leg cramp a few days ago, and it was scary!

I hope the Ivory works and at the very least, you're feet will smell fresh.

Kimanada...I thought I had Ivory Soap in the house and I don't...so I'll have to buy a bar...today I'm waiting for the rug shampooer...oh it's going to be clean in here...(actually I am just hoping some of the spots where the dogs lie will get clean!)

AMK - we are usually on the same wavelength! ;-) Never thought about sweet smelling feet, but that's a definite benefit.

Jeff...you always make me laugh...my problem about this leg cramp fix is that I don't get them everynight..so does this mean I have to sleep with soap for the rest of my life? I'm not sure if I want to be that clean...or have a lumpy sheet!

Wow.

I should get some funky doctor to recommend that same thing, but change it so that taking me to bed would help with leg cramp problems... might help me a little with the ladies.

I could even have that printed on my business cards... not like I will decrease my chances any more than they are now...

:)

Boogers. Tried to post yesterday but blogger was being a pain. Let me know how that turns out - I've often had leg cramps and any solution is worth it in my book. :)

Linda...I'm sorry for all you are going through ...how rough this has all had to be on you as I know we mothers would take any illness or pain away from our kids if we could.

Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc tablets twice a day (you probably need the calcium anyway for your lovely bones).

Calf stretch before bed.

Yoga move - sit on floor, extend legs straight, close together. Then quickly rotate legs out and in, tapping little toes on floor, big toes on each other. Do this a bunch of times (50-100) before bed.

Good luck!

Pegadoc...I've printed out your words...I don't take zinc so that will have to be added into my vitamin stew that husband puts together for me each morning.

I tell him if he ever decides to poison me, he'd have it easy as I never question the mound of colorful tablets and capsules he lovingly puts out with my coffee each morning!
