The following is a real email I sent out this morning.

Hello Bumblebee Executives,
I have a question: my husband was making his tuna sandwich this morning and drained the water out of the Bumblebee tuna can to give to the cats. He looked at the tuna "juice" and he noticed a white foamy substance, but didn't think much of it, especially since you are now including vegetable broth and soy in the tuna can which is relatively new I think.
He gave some juice to the cat and the cat threw up.

Cats do throw up as a hobby, so I wasn't too concerned about that, but the juice looked like it had soap bubbles in it and in all my years of eating Bumblebee tuna I never saw white foamy bubbles come out of a can of tuna.
My husband took his tuna sandwich to work and intends to eat it at noon. I want to hear from someone that this white foam is normal and not an indication that the tuna has gone bad or been contaminated. I like my husband and don't want him sick or poisoned.
There is no phone number to call on the tuna can. (You really should have that on the can so people with serious questions can get an answer!)
I found a phone number finally on Google, but the message says it might take 24 hours for a response....
Too long of a time when there's a potentially dangerous tunafish sandwich that's going to be eaten in three hours and counting.
Please advise me if it's okay for my husband to eat this tuna and perhaps let me know what on earth the white foamy bubbly stuff is. The can does not have an expired date nor was it dented when he opened it this morning.

Bottom line: can my husband eat his tuna sandwich??? The clock is ticking and the tuna sandwich lies in wait.

Got a call from Bumblebee and was told, no he can't eat that sandwich and to be safe, they are picking up and going to analyze it.

Geesh!

WOW! Picking it up?! Very scary. Hopefully they'll tell you at some point what happened. Is the kitty that threw up ok?

wow - that's kind of scary. They are picking up the sandwhich - freaky.

i tell ya - i've been getting the tuna in the pouch lately and finding that it's better than the can - less liquid and better flavor personaly - not that that helps the situation.

Hope you got to him before he ate the sandwhich...(shudder)

Jackie, I thought he took it with him, but he decided at the last minute that he wasn't going to take a chance.

Paintergirl, the Bumblebee guy said I would get a call about pick up, but not so far. He also said they had no cases of anyone getting sick or finding foam in the tuna can, but still they wanted to have a look. I also had an unopened can that interested them because it had the same serial number.

Yes, little Finbar is fine...maybe it was too rich or too foreign for his system and that's why he spewed...

I even labeled the sandwich: Don't eat: This looks good but might be made with tainted tuna! Now I hope they come and get it soon!!

Ilanna, he really wanted to eat it as he had to go off without the main part of his lunch...but when I called him to tell him to not eat it he said he'd left it home -- good, sometimes he listens to me I guess.

Pick up the can.... hmmmm.... sounds like someone is trying to hide the evidence from a potential lawsuit!

(I really think that way when it comes to big companies....).

Hope the kitty is OK.

Steve

HI Steve!! They are picking up the used can, a new can with the same id number and the damn sandwich plus the extra tuna salad...hilarious actually...I wonder if I'll ever be told why the tuna was foamy?

Now if they were really nice, they'd pick up the tab for the $6 sandwich he had to buy from the cafeteria in work!!!

OY!! I am so glad your husband did not eat that sandwich!

Very scary scenario.....I really think that when it comes to food or drinks, if it looks in ANY way questionable, you should dump it.

You did the right thing by contacting Bumblebee. I hope they give you the satisfaction of finding out what the problem was.

Have a great day!!

Hi MB,
Just stopped in to catch up and I wanted to congratulate you on the new kitty. He is adorable! :-)
I hope things have settled down a bit at your house and all the animals have stopped being scared of each other.
The tuna thing is quite mysterious...

Linda, how's your grandson?? I can't wait to hear what they find in the can, if they find anything. You are right, we have to use our own instinct on food and if we get a notion that something's off, we shouldn't eat it.

WEETZIE!!!!!!! How are you Sweet Pea? Hope all is well in your life.

Yesterday I didn't trap the dogs away from the cats and that seemed to make the older cat more comfortable, so all four were intermingling and I think we're over the hump!

I am on this site because I was rinsing my tuna and it seemed foamy. Otherwise it smells and tastes ok. The serial # is 8318ME4SKC best by Nov 2011. Costco brand Albacore. But maybe it is one of those things I didn't know, I didn't know. I realize that you did not rinse yours so I may have added air to mine with my shower faucet head. Thanks for your input.

Tom, check your can to see if it contains vegetable broth or soy proteins...they are now adding in these items to the tuna can to make it taste better and perhaps this is causing the foaming...
