Okay, so now the pet food recall has hit home big time.
I have about two cases of Alpo Prime Cuts in Gravy currently residing in my basement. We stock pile because if husband loses his job, at least the pets will eat, so we buy cases when the food's on sale.
Remember we feed 200 plus pounds of dog every day (divided by two of course.)
Except now, we have potentially tainted food in these cans, and it will take me a couple of hours tomorrow to go through product codes, and expiration dates and store codes to find out if we have killer food.
Enough is enough.
"They" know all kinds of crap about pet food and "they" are dribbling out the truth, bit by bit, because if it all fell down today, we'd realize all pet food is poisonous, or could be poisonous because they all0w poisons to get into the food.
Sad part is, much of the wheat used in pet food can also be sold to human food manufacturers - is it?
I'm going to the one ingredient foods now. I'm buying nothing with more than one ingredient: beef, potato, green bean, lettuce, egg, you get the drift.
Also today the pet food recall hit the dry food products.
I'm so tired of feeling duped and ripped off, scared and stupid.

I almost died yesterday when I read that Hill's dry prescription diet was added to the list as well (our oldest uses it). This is just so horrible for everyone, especially the animals whose lives have been upended. And it's sad for the owners, whose pets may be ill, not to mention the economic cost. Hopefully, your food isn't tainted but if it is, at least you will get your money back. We use PetFoodDirect and they reimbursed us for everything.
Now Pounce and another dog treat made by the same manufacturer is also being recalled...
I thought Hills was the best of the best...terrible!
My mom has a special diet dog-Hill and she is going to lose it when she hears this. Has this been some kind of terrible experiment done on our animals? I'm with you, no more processed foods.
this is one reason I switched to wellness a while ago.. And now i don't even use that.
I use gentle giants. you can't get it in stores. It's manufactured BY the rescue group gentle giants rescue, run by Burt Ward of Batman fame. :) he specializes in large breeds and when I heard he had great danes living on average 14-18 years, I figured what the hey. My dogs ADORE the food, it's non age specific - and mom's dogs finally lost the weight she needed to lose. Worth checking out and at least cheaper than the wellness is in the store. (I think it's $50 for 40 lbs including shipping from california.) Good luck mary!!!
PG - from what I know, pet food manufacturers by this starter slop that is made in certain areas of the country and Canada. This slop is filled with total shit, ground and chemicalized into a product that is then sold to Purina etc as a base for their food which they then add in bits of this or that.
Ilanna, I have heard of Gentle Giants and will look into it...thanks for the tip!
The recalled 13.2-ounce and 22-ounce ALPO Prime Cuts cans and 6-, 8-, 12- and 24-can ALPO Prime Cuts Variety Packs have four-digit code dates of 7037 through 7053, followed by the plant code 1159. Those codes follow a "Best Before Feb. 2009" date. This information should be checked on the bottom of the can or the top or side of the multi-pack cartons.
Importantly, no Purina brand dry pet foods are affected by the recall - including ALPO Prime Cuts dry. In addition, no other Purina dog food products, no Purina cat food products, Purina treat products or Purina Veterinary Diet products are included in this recall, nor have been impacted by the contaminated wheat gluten supply.
This is from Nestle/Purinas web site.
Only one manufacturing site of 17 got the tainted wheat.
It does suck monkey balls.
Did you know up until the turn of the century all animals were given table scraps?
Hi Mini! I was told that I shouldn't use any of the Alpo cans, the woman is a big pet advocate so I don't know if she's being super cautious or if she's right -- that the wheat gluten in any gravied foods has poisons in it, but the tests haven't come out yet.
Also, in the news, it's saying that the affected wheat gluten could be in human products ..my head hurts.
They just added Rotini Pasta & Vegetables same codes as the Purina Prime Cuts.

Um... has anybody considered this pet food contamination as a "dry run" for something even worse?
Its a horrible thought but I cant get it out of my head.
Gavin, I hadn't thought of it...but boy what nice research for our enemies...put a poison in a common filler ingredient that you sell cheap overseas and get us all!
