A New Post for Canopener and my adoring fans (hahaha)

A nice thing to do on a rainy day is drive to the beach where most people have shuttered up and packed up and left town. That's what we did today. We owned the place.

If you do find yourself lucky enough to be in the Westbrook CT area, then please treat yourself to a huge mouth watering lobster roll at:

Westbrook Lobster Restaurant and Fish Market
,
346 Boston Post Road
Clinton, CT 06413
Phone: 860-664-9464

Yummy yummy yummy. Say hello to Michelle, the bartender and know you will get the freshest seafood at the best price around. (The coldest draft beer too.)

Now that's what I call a great way to spend a rainy, gray otherwise miserable day. I had so much fun.

After our fantastic lunch, some of us meandered over to the new Goodwill to look for bargains and some went to a nearby garden shop.

I found the greatest Abercrombie thin weight sweatshirt with green writing for the mere price of $3.99 and as soon as I wash off some rich kid's nasal effluence from the sleeve, I'll be feeling mighty cool.

I also found THE perfect coffee cup. It's huge but light, a handle that offers a large space which will fit lots of supporting fingers, a thinnish lip with a curve and is stamped with the Blue Willow pattern I love. 99 cents on that purchase. I got change from my 5 bucks. How about that?

Filled to my gills on seafood, from here (the computer) I shall pick up my current book and my favorite afghan and head for the sofa. I am totally sated even though I spent money I should have saved for a rainy day...oh, wait a minute...it is a rainy day now isn't it?

Sangroncito...It's fun to think I'm sharing this lovely rainy day with you. We are so far apart, yet the rain falls from the same sky.

Have fun with your new internet connection!

Hi MB!

I was so happy to check your blog and find you had posted today!

Your rainy day adventures are glorious! Nothing better, in my opinion, that cozying under an afghan.........my mom made the ones we have in our house, so her spirit and the work of her hands keeps me warm!! And all of my kids and grandkids have afghans that she made too.......even though she has been gone a long time.

It's nice to have reminders like that.

I love fall.......it's my favorite time of year........love the colors and the cool weather!

Hope you are well, and keep posting!!

Love,
Linda

Hi Canopener, ask and ye shall receive. Lately though, I have nothing much to say and sit at the keyboard wondering who would want to read this drivel.

Hi Linda! What a wonderful mother to think ahead and make afghans for her family. I have one from my mother..it's more like a lap blanket, but when I use it I think that her DNA is all over this afghan and it makes me feel cozy and close to her. Do you ever stop missing your mother once she's died? I think of my mother every day and wish she was still here with us.

I'm a fall person too. I love the change of foods too. I get excited about roasts and gravy and huge mounds of mashed potatoes, foods I don't eat in the summer. I could sit in front of the fire all day, but will be careful this year as last year I fainted from dehydration hahahah. Too much fire place and not enough fluids!!

Mary - I am SOOOO jealous of your seafood outing.

Being down here a little further south, lobster isn't as readily available or as tasty. :) I've been spoiled by my husband when he gets me lobsters from Net Results on Martha's Vineyard. He brought me home a 3lb one once. :)mmmmmmmm :)

As for Rainy days, (or nights) I love laying in bed, with the dogs cuddled up against me (they don't like the thunder) keeping me warm, and reading or watching tv (or both which I frequently do at the same time)

glad you enjoyed your rainy day!

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never heard of a lobster roll. But if I'm ever in Connecticut, I'll definitely have to try one!

Lots of shnazzy purchases! Makes me want to go thrifting to see what treasures I can find.

You asked about missing parents once they have passed on......for me, time has tempered the grief just a tad, but it never goes away completely.

My dad died in 1979, and my mom in 1998, and I still think of them every single day.

It's hard to get over! I know they would have had such enjoyment out of my kids and grandkids...that's the hardest part, I think.

Have a great day!!
Linda

a good coffee cup is essential, it can make or break the whole coffee experience.

Ilanna, a 3 pound lobster must be a sight to behold! I'd bet I could eat it all...a thought to dream on.

Nicole...it's picked lobster meat sauteed in butter - a true delicacy and decadently buttery and rich...ah, I want another one soon.

Linda, if it were not for the birth of children, I don't think we could go on after the loss of a beloved parent. Children take some of the sting away. My father never got to see my youngest daughter and I always wonder how he would have looked holding her...

Hey Nate! I've had coffee twice in the new mug and it fits all my criteria for a good mug. I'm happy. I do not like my coffee pot though...it's too sophisticated for my technical abilities...it came with a DVD which always means - too hard for me to use without going to a 6 week course.

Hi Bradley -- I've got some more free time lately which is wonderful. Hope it keeps up!
