Last night I was stunned when a man of the cloth…probably tablecloth, made the statement that Terri Schiavo was the modern day Jesus Christ. Wow. It got me thinking…what would happen if Terri died today on Good Friday?

Which got me thinking what would be going on 2005 years from now…

Something like this…?

March 25, 4010

Hi friends. Sweet Terri! I finally had a chance to get on the bioputer. The dogs have rolled in something bad in the yard and smell like Easter eggs found under the couch in August.

That smell could scare the beTerri out of you. It’s darn close to my imagined smell of rotting flesh. I heard that all of husband’s relatives will be stopping by on Sunday. Terri Schiavo!! I don’t want to wait on that whole crew and Schiavo Almighty it’s not my turn to host all people who share genetic material with him.

Husband’s sister always shows up in clothing that would eliminate her from any kitchen duties and I end up waiting on her hand and foot. For Schiavo’s sakes, when is it my turn to be a guest and not just a perpetual host?

Husband’s family are Terrians and members of the religious right. They will want to sing religious songs like “Terri loves me this I know, because the bible tells me so”.

The relatives will be fresh from church sporting little holy cards with grotesque pictures of Terri Schiavo on them bedazzled with a glitter halo. The younger kids will be wearing their “What would Terri do” bracelets and the older folk will go on an on about how Terri saved them and they were born again.

Terri Schiavo!! I dislike this holiday!

Well, I think I’ll stir things up and pick out some music I like – like Terri Schiavo Superstar. I loved that ancient rock opera.

One thing that is good, I won’t have to host another party till Terrimas, and that’s nine months away!

Terry f'ing Schiavo that's a horrible idea! Of course then we'd have an acceptable female godhead that did something other than get knocked up before she was supposed to... which isn't all bad, I guess. But somehow, no, I don't think people will buy that she's a modern Jesus Christ. Well, except maybe some cult who has a kool-aid ceremony.

EVERY authority figure (valid or puppet) should be viewed wearing Shrek ears. Or those pointy fairy-tale princess ren faire hats. Man, I'd love to see Bush in one of those.

You are smart and witty but you take it too far.

This was a hilarious post! Though I think that debate over the issues raised by this case is an important one, this particular case is boring me already.

Ah what's too far? I've heard that only in exaggeration can we learn a kernal of truth.

Have you heard that they are saying she's spoken and asked to live (her family of course says this)

If that was true wouldn't everyone have known about this much earlier? What dr. in his right mind would pull the feeding tube in a woman that can speak? Their tactics are dispicable. Horrific.

I can't believe she's still hanging in there! I know if she could feel pain she wouldn't be considered PVS. So why are people worried about this? No one wants her to feel pain. If she was: they'd give her morphine.

Death is a natural process just like birth. The body goes into certain states during death to protect itself from pain and discomfort. There is a certain euphoria if one could feel which TS cannot at this point, at death. It's the release.

To those religious people: GOD has been waiting 15 years to take her "HOME" and man and machine have been keeping her from her final reward. This is heresy in my book. THe natural and right thing is to let this brain full of spinal fluid die so her soul can pass on to where in needs to go. She's being tortured by being forced to stay earthbound.

Irina : I was wondering what your stance would be on this issue. You've been rather quiet.

Echrai...I want shrek ears. You look so freaking adorable in them. I'm tres jealous amie.

I wondered what Irina's position was on the Schiavo case...I wouldn't have predicted bored...that's husband's take on it all...so much hype over one person when thousands and thousands of people are dying with or without congresional intervention.

Defender -- bacteria is also "alive" - we have to have some line that's drawn on what is life and what isn't...we use the brain in most cases and the CT scan of Terri's brain says it all.

I haven't written on this issue because it's so ridiculously overcovered already. I think that by turning this woman into a source of entertainment, the media is going beyond anything I would ever consider appropriate. I would gladly discuss the general issues discussed by this case (and I do, on other blogs), but I don't want to devote an entire entry to this poor woman. I don't think her condition is being treated with dignity, and I'm very sorry about it.
