Peeing and Shaking

It took two adults, a handful of cookies, and a strong leash to get Beau in for his physical and rabies shot.

Beau is a Golden Retriever in lamb’s clothing; he has very curly light blond fur and his face is shaped like a sheep’s face.

He’s a very sweet dog unless…

he realizes he’s approaching the vet’s office.

Then the wolf inside comes out with lip curls and low growls and after a few minutes of that it’s all about peeing and shaking; peeing and shaking; peeing and shaking until we can’t believe he could possible have any more pee inside of him.

But he does, he pees on the vet’s shoe.

I apologize but the vet says no worries, his shoes are peed on daily.

A few hundred dollars later, we get him back in the car and finally he stops shaking.

I finally stop shaking too.

He’s getting old for a big dog and I worry that they’ll find something wrong with him other than his numerous neuroses.

I’d felt a lump under his front leg which worried me a lot, but the vet said it was nothing.

Except for the excessive peeing, I was quite similar to Beau, nervous, anxious and shaky --hoping against hope that the lump was a benign growth.

Phew…made it through that visit and with luck we won’t have to take Beau back for three more years.

I don't know, maybe I have mutant dogs - but mine *LOVE* the vet... i don't understand it. They are excited to go everywhere. When we get to the vets office they start climing the stairs to the exam rooms right away, and are jumping and licking at the techs and the vets... quiet for shots and generally very happy... like i said. Mutants. But then they do other things... go to http://moblog.co.uk/blog/ilanna to see what Mister did this morning... :)

Hey, I'm confused...you have two blogs? I have been in a fog all morning!

Lucky you with vet-loving dogs...it must make it so much easier and much less pee!

Mary,
I hate it when they get those lumps. Auggie has a pretty large fatty tumor under his belly right by his "thing". It's benign but I opted to leave it alone since he is so old and it would be more traumatic to mess with it. He loves the vet but Dasha she starts quaking all over her whole body when she gets in the door. She did pretty good last time we were there. I read Cesar Milans book and it has helped me and her alot.
I don't try to comfort her when she is freaking out, I ignore it like nothing is wrong and that actually works better than trying to soothe her. Go figger.

Dashababy, is that the Dog Whisperer? I've heard many good things about him if I'm thinking of the same guy.

Like you with Augie, there isn't a good reason to put Beau under anesthesia to remove a lump and since he has so much fur, the lumps don't even show. Plus, I don't love him because he's beautiful..I love him because he's Beau the good boy dog!

Thanks AMK...(although the one on my stereo is having problems!)

Bradley, you are back in form my favorite daddy 2 B! You always make me laugh and I love you for it!

Jeff...aren't they wonderful animals? (If you don't mind brushing them...)

My dogs are pretty good except for digging, sneaking up on the couch, stealing food from the counter if it's something delicious and jumping up snagging quite a few crotches and leaving lots of male friends with high pitched voices!

I always have to say: Guys, watch your parts, here come the dogs!

hehe - yeah i have 2 blogs. The photo phone is where i can email pics directly from my phone to the blog and they work. If i try to download them from email it gets all kind of wonky...but the photoblog is linked from the main blog so you don't have to save both address. :)

And you said it so well - you don't love your dogs cuz they're beautiful you love them cuz they are their lovable selves... :)
