Stopping By for a Quick Hello

I must have gotten 30 phone calls today…oy!

I feel like I spent all day on the phone…with the exception of when DJ called me and said: I’m on the way to your house, I’m picking you up and taking you on a ride with me while I drop something off in Clinton, and I’ll have you home in a couple of hours.

Which he did and we even managed to sneak in a lobster roll…yummmm.

I still have no kitten. I made a second attempt online to a rescue agency, but they must have a zillion people looking for kittens and only a dozen kittens up for adoption. Either that or I’ve been blackballed and don’t know it. Or the do-gooders with the ‘tudes googled me and read what I said about them.

----------

If you’re ever in Bridgeport Connecticut, and like steak treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience at a restaurant called Joseph’s. They serve the best steak in the universe!

The bartender Joe makes the best cosmopolitans I’ve ever had and the place is friendly and cozy.

Our friends drove up from the Bronx and we met them there for a wonderful dinner – exceptional, right down to the crème brulee!

---------------------

We also went to an extended family picnic on the weekend which was very nice – no fights, no slights, no barbs and nothing bad happened.

In both the restaurant and the family picnic, the buzz was everyone was voting for Lamont…hope that comes true.

People are so fed up with the Iraq war and putting our troops in harm’s way when most people agree that the fighting is going to go on there about as long as the Catholics and Protestants have been fighting in Ireland.

Holy wars are about souls and not bodies…although they generate bodies.

If I heard right, we now have more American troops dead from the Iraq war than nine eleven and we’ve been in Iraq longer than we were in Europe for WWII.

Correct me if I’m wrong as I’m hurrying to get this up before the phone rings!!!!

Absolutely right on both counts. My Dad always says "Goddamn Americans ... always trying to make up for being late to the last two world wars by being early for the next one." I think it's a joke.

Looking for a kitten? Check the bulletin board at the grocery store. Always a ton available there - at least in these parts.

Nilbo...the dogooder ladies pluck those notes off the bulleting boards and confiscate the kittens and then hold them hostage...I'm not kidding!

Thanks for affirming the authenticiy of those statistics...I heard a respected friend say them, but didn't have time to do the research...and the joke is funny...but we Americans have a lot of work to do in our own country before we can "help" so many others.

And, Osama is still out there and Saddam had nothing to do with 9 11 in fact he kept his country shackled but not bugging us in the US.

hey mary - kitten wise...

wanna come down and visit? :) DE spca has a number of kittens 7months and younger... have you tried the local shelter as opposed to rescue groups?

I'd adopt one for you down here and give it to you but i'm not allowed to have any cats in my house... since my bro in law is allergic. (course sometimes I think it's a good reason to get one (grin) )

Ilanna, the local shelters are just as militant. I don't get it...but I feel if it's right, I'll find my way to a kitten or vice versa. The whole experience has been so foul I am going to put it out of my mind for a while.

Maybe I'll just adopt a human baby as I believe that would be simpler!

yet much more expensive.

anyway the local shelters around here arent that bad.

we adopted my dog with no problem.
when i got my first cat we also didnt have a problem - just needed a written note from the landlord that it was ok.
and they come spayed/neutered if they are old enough so you dont even have to worry about that.
*i live near ilanna*
i hope you get a kitty soon.
hugs

yeah - humane can be a bit militant down here but not bad - they are realistic. the spca though is 'if you have the $$ and own the home' then go for it! :) (within reason of course) SO i say you come to DE, meet me and minijaxter and we'll help you get a kitty cat. meeting and kitty all in one shot. :)

Btw - new post, i think you'll be interested. . . :)

Thanks Jackie..I've told so many people about wanting a kitten my husband's convinced we're going to find a dozen dropped off at our door!!

His buddy in the city says he sees kittens all the time...right now I think I'm kittened out....I will start a fresh search when I'm over feeling like a baby boo boo.

Hi Ilanna...That sounds like so much fun!! I emailed you for the scoop!!

Lobster rolls...yum. And 30 calls, jeez mary how do you get anything done? Lately our calls have either been hipanic telemarketers, of course the overseas Indian telemarketers (you have to give these guys credit for trying, just try before 8pm.) And then there is always the space noise calls as melvin calls it.

PG - a good lobster roll is worth its weight in gold. It's one of my favorite treats when done correctly -- enough butter to be succulent but not so much it drips down your hands and the roll falls apart!!

Marko...now you've connected two great things...a lobster roll WITH a cosmo!

Nate, many of the phone callers were repeat offenders!

I hope you get a kitten soon. A nice little kitty needs to come live with you and eat some left over pieces of tenderloin brought back from the steak place.

Hi Michelle..you have the most wonderful taste in poetry...thanks for sharing your faves...I'm learning a lot from your choices.

Thank the goddess I have one cat or I'd be out of my mind by now...he's a good boy but not affectionate...he's still young at 8 so maybe he'll grow into an affectionate cat...right now he's aloof...which is fine too.

Do trust me when I say, any cat that comes into our home lives a very fine life filled with all things cat s like, respect, independence, Premium cat food plus good table scraps and when it gets cold, lots of fires to curl up in front of.

Oh and me, the consummate cat lover...that doesn't hurt either.

My mom got her kitten at the local (Oscoda, MI) pound/ASPCA -- it's adorable and healthy and already running the house. I blogged it finally. (It's so hard to take the time to blog while on vacation ... )

Forget the rescue places -- go to the pound or SPCA shelter. The Westport shelter people are very nice and as long as you have the fee and pledge to take care of the kitty and not feed it to any dogs that like to eat kitties, there's no inquisition or other rules -- they'd rather adopt them out than put them to sleep. Or you could look on Craigslist (or put a wanted ad on Craigslist!)

My mom's new kitten is super affectionate, which surprised me because kittens usually are a bit standoffish for a few days. But affectionate is exactly what she needed, so it has been working out perfectly so far.

Hi Mary,

RE the *sigh* body count, as I understand it the total of American dead in Iraq AND Afghanistan is now higher than the number killed in the twin towers. Of course, a few days have passed so that might be even more.

As to the kitten, my sister on LI has feral cats that she feeds in her yard, and has a regular maternity ward. If you want one of those when they are born (all the ones I have seen are STUNNING! I'll clue her in for you - all that's required is a good home, and you qualify there! Maybe you want more than one? :)

HI ec! Today we went to a local shelter and I think we may have passed! We'll have to see...at least they were very nice. If I want a kitten they asked me to take two, if I wanted a young cat, 3 and under I could take just one. They were all just too cute, I could have taken them all plus the dogs!

Thanks for the offer with your sister. I feel much better to know that there are still ways to get a kitten without being humiliated and turned down!
