S.H.I.T.

(So Happy It’s Thursday)

Since I’ve been thinking a lot about days of the weeks and the seasons, I just have to say that Thursdays don’t get their due.

Thursdays in my house are leftover days: leftover food gets eaten; leftover chores get done; leftover emotions get purged if I can do it.

I don’t like going into the weekend carrying the baggage of the previous days with me. Disagreements, worries, slights and insults can all fester if not dealt with and so I choose Thursday to dump the bad feelings and worries that seem to pile up.

This isn’t easy. Heck I’m still dealing with trying to get the G. D. “Crying Game” song out of my head. I am trying to replace it with another song and am currently attempting to substitute something by Elton John…maybe Blue Eyes which I love, or something by Leonard Cohen. Chelsea Hotel” can stick in my brain too…for one month these lyrics intruded my mind whenever I was mentally vegging:

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,

you were talking so brave and so sweet,

giving me head on the unmade bed,

while the limousines wait in the street.

Those were the reasons and that was New York,

we were running for the money and the flesh.

And that was called love for the workers in song probably still is for those of them left.

Ah but you got away, didn't you babe,

you just turned your back on the crowd,

you got away, I never once heard you say,

I need you, I don't need you,

I need you, I don't need you

and all of that jiving around.

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel

you were famous, your heart was a legend.

You told me again you preferred handsome men

but for me you would make an exception.

And clenching your fist for the ones like us

who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,

you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind, we are ugly but we have the music."

And then you got away, didn't you babe...

I don't mean to suggest

that I loved you the best,

I can't keep track of each fallen robin.

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,

that's all, I don't even think of you that often.

I have to dig out my Cohen CDs – hmmmm --now I’m wondering if I even have this on CD or just cassette which I never listen to anymore but can’t part with my collection either.

Cassettes are leftovers; they’re definitely Thursdays.

I guess that’s why I like Thursdays, sometimes it’s necessary to deal with ones leftovers…

What leftovers are you dealing with today?

I hope we have this song somewhere so I can go listen to it. Oh the days of the sweet Chelsea.
Cassettes are like gold when I'm in the car. Just a little tape deck and hundreds of tapes to pick from.

I'm dealing with all the leftover house projects started in order to sell the house. One thing at a time.

PG - how exciting that you are going through with selling your house and moving...the best part of it all is I will still have you in blogland...aren't computers wonderful -- no matter where you go you can bring your friends with you!

Chelsea Hotel is one of those songs that I long for when I haven't heard it in a while...I have a Borders credit so if I can't find mine, I'm ordering another.

I am (pleasantly) dealing with Blue Rodeo leftovers... went to go see their amazing concert (will post about it later or tomorrow) last night...

...And today I am just listening to all their live albums!

(And driving people at the office nuts because I am singing out loud to EVERY track... and I have like... 100+ live tracks!).

Oh... and leftover roasted chicken for dinner, too!

(In Homer) Mmmmmmm.... roasted chicken.... *drool*...

;)

Ooh JDJ,. can't wait to hear about it...

Now you gone and done it!!! I will not survive 48 hours without a roast chicken...it's fixated in my mind...roast chicken, roast chicken, I am not getting sleepy because I want roast chicken.

I could almost make one today, except I won't be home...

So I guess there will be no chicken and I'm royally clucked!

Just go pick one up from the supermarket... the one down the street from us makes amazing roast chicken!

I could eat that every night, except I also need to eat meatloaf every night too...

hahahah!

JDJ - why didn't I think of that? The supermarket shall be visited upon by moi on my way home. I shall make up a butter/garlic sauce to baste the chicken and stick a lemon cut in wedges in that ominous hole -- I don't like to think about that hole too much.

While I'm crisping up the skin, I'm going to cook up some asparagus and nuke some new potatoes which I'll then throw in the chicken pan to crisp up and absorb the juices...yummy. Dinner without any work.

Jackie --Roast chicken, roast turkey...you know fall is descending upon us when our thoughts go to winter comfort food!!

Toe twitching...could be a side effect of the healing process...I hope so!

turns out the ortho says its not a part of my injury.

other possibilities that have been brought up by coworkers:

not enough potassium (they tell me bananas but i dont like 'em)

or

just being too tired. which could also be the case i have not got a lot of sleep the last couple of nights.

and on the food thought. i went to my moms for lunch today and she made me grilled cheese and tomato soup...yummy

When I roast a chicken, I make a paste of powdered rosemary (you can get it from Penzey's) and garlic and a little olive oil and tuck it under the skin in as many cavities as I can make without ripping the skin to pieces. Let that cook in -- and I baste it with olive oil and minced garlic. Store chickens are good unless they've been brined (like Stew Leonard's and Stop n Shop), yuck.

I like Leonard Cohen too -- I don't listen to him much though unless I'm cleaning our bedroom (one of his records is in the CD player in that room)

Lee,
that rosemary paste sounds heavenly, I'll have to try that.

I like Thursday night better than Thursday day :) Good t.v.

Happy Friday Mary & Everyone!

Leonard Cohen and leftovers...a delicious post! Now, I suspect it will take me some time to see all the other delicious items I can find in the posts from when I was away. :-)
