Lewis: A Tale of Two Kitties

The big news in Connecticut is this: Lewis the cat has been put under house arrest for attacking an Avon lady.

Lewis, maligned by neighbors for being feisty, fresh and perpetually stalking prey, including a few passing ankles, is now forced to look out the window with an aching heart for the great outdoors.

Neighbors are tired of watching Lewis parade around town with something small and furry or feathery in his mouth and are fearful of his prancing and pouncing, especially when he’s headed in their direction.

They even point to his six-toed paws as proof that he has quite an arsenal of weapons at his claw tips.

Lewis, hero or hellion I ask?

I say hero.

Lewis is just being a cat, doing the deeds of cats and doing it with aplomb. Stalking and pouncing are typical cat behaviors and do not prove in any way that he is purposely terrorizing the neighborhood.

Yes, he might have grabbed a few neighbor’s ankles as they passed by his yard, but it was all in play.

Lewis is not a monster but a misunderstood feline. I think counseling and perhaps accelerated rehabilitation would benefit Lewis.

Lewis has a brother Thomas who has no restrictions upon his comings and goings. How unfair for Lewis to watch Thomas mouse hunting outside while he must never feel the soft grass upon his paws again: One brother free to roam and one restricted to the mouseless, birdless and yes, Avon Lady-less confines of his home.

House arrest for Lewis --that’s cruel and unusual punishment.

And why?

Because he refuses to talk?

Was he even read his Miranda Rights?

Is there a whisker of truth to these charges?

Free Lewis I say. Let him join Thomas in outdoor play once again. Let’s face it, no one’s purr-fect, not even Lewis. But he deserves due process, and should be able to hunt without a license.

Lew-Is, Lew-Is, Lew-Is.

I say anyone capable of keeping that Avon lady from knocking on my door is well worth their weight in beer.

Sylow, I agree. I would love to buy Lewis from his owner, and let him keep all solicitors, unwanted drop-ins and particular relatives off my door step.

I think the neighbors are prejudiced against cats, they are casting aspurrrsions against poor Lewis for one reason only: because he's a cat. I think we should get the ASPCAACLU on this case.

Oh Mary, you make me laugh with your little play on words here. Poor, poor Lewis, not fair at all.
Maybe all this will die down after awhile and he will get to go outside eventually. You can't keep a cat in forever can you??? That is cruel. What a sad story :(
FREE LEWIS!

Just think...under house arrest for following his true nature. Not to belittle the seriousness of the situation, but have you considered writing it up as a made for tv special?

Kimananda...Our local press and the Associated Press has picked up on the story...I would almost bet you that someone is going to do something with this story...it's just a little too funny. And Lewis, himself, seems to bask in the limelight.

The headlines around the state have been hilarious...

Examples:

Fairfield feline under house arrest now media celebrity

Cops slap Asbo on terror cat

Terrible Tabby Is Put Under House Arrest

Crazy Cat With Six Toes Terrorizes Conn.

Awwww, poor Lewis! Now our civil rights to be as we are are being taken to the next level!

Kittys may not be kittys. No more mousies for Lewis. The mice are going multiply and take over Connicuit (sp?) and drive all the humans out, just because Lewis was under arrest.

Who's his defense attorney? Miranda rights need to be given.

OYE!!

Lawbrat...you said it...Lewis needs a public defender...or at least a public relations specialist.

I think the neighbors just didn't like Lewis's family and were just being catty.

Woot woot! Lewis! You rock. I love this kitty. I think he should have a statue created of him, in his honor and placed in the town square. I'd stop by and place a wreath at the wee six toed foot.

I live in this town and I must say, I've been more than a little tempted to drive by the neighborhood and get a sighting. I'm such a celebrity... ahem...(apologies to Lewis)hound.

Celebrity Hound, very funny LB!!

How lucky you are to live in Lewis's town...I would hope they'd erect a statue in Lewis's honor at your town line...

Lewis is some cat...you'll be seeing his face everywhere for a few weeks; he was on Inside Edition, CNN, Fox News and who knows, might even show up on your back porch!
