Rosé Ramblings

1) I’m really into rosé wines. I guess it’s a summer thing. Something about the beautiful shade of pink…kind of depression-glass pink, and the fruity but dry taste of a nice, chilled rosé served in a lovely, antique, etched, crystal wineglass is just delightful on a hot day. It’s just one of those small joys in life that really add a lot to my senses.

2) I love coffee too. My next purchase will be a French Press coffee pot. I already have the Senseo one or two cupper that makes a simple cup of coffee turn into a frothy cappuccino-like treat, and also have my old workhorse Krupps 12 cup, but I recently had coffee at a friend’s house and his coffee was superb. Not only did he use a French Press, he used bottled water and burred (not ground) coffee beans. What a difference in taste!

3) Cream, gotta have cream in my coffee. This is another new addition to my coffee drinking. I used to be just fine with milk, and I don’t use that much to make a difference, I thought. But once I started with the cream, it did something to the coffee that I really really like. I also want sugar cubes, though we haven’t bought any yet. I’d like a small crystal sugar bowl with ancient mini sterling tongs to pluck a perfectly square sparkling cube to dump in the creamy brown liquid. That’s on my wish list.

4) I guess my ramblings are going in the direction of taking time, effort and energy to have a few things in life that are sublime. Then the peeling wall paper, missing tile grout and scarred and dimpled moldings don’t seem so bad.

5) One more reason to detest religionists and their nasty ways: put your blogger url in your browser window only instead of : marybishop.blogspot.com (for example) put in marybishop.blogpsot.com. Misspell spot to psot and POOF! You are taken to a big fat Christian Blinking Bible page. To whoever did this? EFF U! (And I'm not talking about Fordham University.)

It's those little things in life that make it worthwhile isn't it. and bearable.

I LOVE our french press. It makes me feel so exotic. We also have one of those italian "on the stove" expresso makers. I highly suggest it too. I'll find the name and get back to you.

I agree PG - We live in such a hurry up world, overly exhausted from running around like hamsters in a cage and a few slow, elegant, nice things in life sure means a lot. By the way...you are one of the people who if people are looking for YOU and make a mistake in spelling as in PainterGirl.blogPsot.com your readers will be kidnapped and thrown into Bible school...try it.

PS I love espresso...especially with a hint of Black Sambuca and a piece of lemon peel...yum.

Holy hell MB. How did you discover this? This makes my blood boil.

MMM, sambuca.

Try expresso poured over french vanilla ice cream. it makes a very lovely dessert.

PG - I misstyped a blog address and was sent to that bible site with the free plasma tv and the ludicrous threats of the end of the world sprinkled in with anti-gay talk.

Then I put in a few more urls, yours included, and the same damn thing happened. Nothing like "gotcha" religion! I'll have to try that dessert, can I do it now? (too early to drink Mary)

Jackie...I love merlot too, but lately I'll have a petite syrah because Crane Lake has one at $4-5 and it is delicious! Even my oenophile friends adore it.

ah the french press. I have 2 of them because this way my mother does not corrupt my nice clean coffee pot with actual coffee. See I don't drink it (ducking and running) it doesn't agree with my belly. :) (my mother despairs and doesn't understand how she spawned 2 children who don't drink cofee) but I have french presses for her. :) it works REALLY nicely - and you don't evne have to use the burred beans, you can just do a medium grind. :)works fine. :) Makes a great dessert coffee too (works well with heavy flavors - but thos eyou should use coarse.)

As for Roses I don't drink wine either. :) 3 oz and i'm completely sloshed with a headache. Not worth the effort. :) i'll stick with the rare occasional beer. :)

I can't handle red wines - something to do with the tanins or some such - they cause near immediate BAD headaches. Roses on the other hand agree very well with me - I love roses and zinfandels. Love them. Drink them fairly regularly as well.

Ilanna --2 French presses and you don't even drink coffee? What a wonderful hostess you are to your mom and others. I could go out and get a French Press today, but I must convince husband why it's necessary to buy another coffee pot when we already have two plugged in and taking up space on our counters. I'd also love an old fashioned stove coffee pot, just for the fun of it.

Irina...I think the Bible Boobs bought the blogpsot url so they are everywhere...never new a typo could bring such bile into the back of my throat!

Nate, I didn't like coffee at 19 either...it took me a few years to develop a taste for it and now it's just as addictive to me as other "substances" I've been known to love...like nicotine!

Lawbrat - hi! Hope you are feeling okay...yes, it's a pisser indeed. We must all watch our typing now or face the blinking: you have won a plasma TV/ we hate gays website.

ElG - nothing wrong with cheap rum...think about caiperhainas (sp) don't have time to look up the real spelling...the cachaca (sp) is the cheapest crap in the world but I've got a big bottle of it ready for my next craving!

ELG - I am deeply gratified that I could be a support during this time of indecision/questioning you are experiencing...and after all the incidents of the past, I am happy you are exploring new alternatives.

Michelle, Pinot Grigio...super yummy - try it with green pears and Gruyere cheese and there's a wonderful combo.

Echrai - I love red wines but can't drink them in the summer unless I've been chilled in AC long enough..othewise I just get too hot.

You can't get too hot. At least, for me.

I get a blend of coarse, but uniformly ground Burundi/French Guyanan Fair Trade Coffee which I strain ever so gently through a Bodum French Press. I add a tiny teaspoon full of Splenda.

Then I take the vile concoction - which you could not force me to drink at gunpoint - out to my wife on the deck, get myself a Diet Pepsi with Lime, and have a good chuckle at the expense of all the coffee geeks in the world.
