A Real Post

I'm so sick and tired of sending more troops to Iraq; I'm sick and tired of people pretending there's no such thing as global warming; I'm sick to death of Joe Lieberman and sick that my fellow residents of CT voted this guy in knowing that he'd want to escalate the war. I am beginning to believe what others have pointed out about him: he's really the senator from Israel and his concerns for CT or the US are always secondary to his love of Israel. Why not make him ambassador to Israel and get someone in that seat who cares about our state in particular? Guess it's too late for that.

(See why I've opted to post cat pictures rather than say what's on my mind?)

I'm astounded that the electric company can raise their rates by 60 percent in our state and Lieberman and others seem to think this is a fine idea.

I'm shocked at the rude people I encounter every single day: sick sneezers who spray their germs all over you rather than turn away; drivers who cut you off, drive on your side of the road if there's an impediment on their side; speed down the road until they're in your trunk even though speed limits are low.

Grocery shoppers who nip at your heels with their carts and restaurant patrons who bellow into their cell phones while you're trying to eat.

Mostly the Iraq war has me miserable all the time. More young lives are now to be sacrificed and the thought of it makes me sick. But, we fire the best Iraqi translator in the military because he's gay.

I'm sick of law suits and malpractice suits and insurance companies who have collectively made health care no longer the work of doctors and nurses, but CPAs and lawyers.

So, now that I've said this I'll go take some more cat pictures.

Mini, you made me laugh...thanks I needed that!! What a sour mood I was in after prezo's speech.

Anyhow, the no-ball wonder is eating like a pig. He was 7.9 pounds on Jan 3 and I think he's 8 1/2 now.

Of course, he eats Fancy Feast while the other cat eats Friskie's canned food...ess pee oh eye ell eee dee!

We couldn't watch him. he's starting to look old and ragged and he deserves it every bit. I CANNOT believe that he wants to send more troops. Cannot believe it. I am disgusted and saddened when I see the recruits. I just want to start yelling things at them and kidnapp all those boys about to sign up. It's not the right thing to do. Our president does not have our best interests in mind. He cares about himself and his job. If he did the right thing and pulled the troops out, then he would have to come up with a good plan. That couldn't happen, because then his staff would actually have to think things through. I'm just as mad Mary.

Re: Malpractice lawsuits. We were discussing that very issue in my Torts class the other day. I suggested that perhaps putting a reasonable cap on damages might not be such a bad idea, but my professor responded that it would probably make figuring out equitable damages for really big injuries too difficult. To be honest, I don't buy it. I think having a scale of awards with objective criteria would go a long away towards minimizing needless litigation.

PG, I couldn't watch him but read about the speech in the paper. I just cannot look at his face anymore. It seems like he's been in office for decades...

I have to avoid thinking about the war or I just get depressed and feel so helpless and hopeless. In some strange sick way, it makes me feel better that you feel like me.

Irina, insurance companies have lists valuing everything from a lost finger or hand to death...I would think malpractice awards could also be on some scale too.

I also think people have to stop suing frivolously -- using the courts as an easy way to make money. Doctors and lawyers are only human beings and make mistakes. People have to factor that into their complaints and save law suits for the big stuff.

I know some people that "sue" as an alternate source of income.

Hey Sheryl, you can't know how uplifting it is to have kindred souls out there in blog land. Thanks...

Nate, the thing I fear the most is a return of the draft -- that takes a young and talented man like you and against your will, sends you far away to a country that detests the fact you are there.

I'm in the minority here, because I think a surge may be a good thing, but a surge of a few hundred thousand troops, so we can finish this thing, and get the hell out, and we withdraw through Syria tearing them and Hezbollah up in the process.

I'm a soldier myself and I will do as commanded as long as I am not ordered to committ an unlawful act. The recruiter is a soldier and doing his job, and anyone who joins knows exactly what they are getting into. The politicians are fair game, but the soldiers aren't the bad guys (with a few exceptions who deserve to hang).

I am torn about it myself. I have no problem with going there and putting my life on the line, as I signed a contract, and enjoy a nice standard of living, but I realize things have gone badly while I think leaving Sadaam in power was inexcusable, too. I also detest much of the peace movement from Noam Chomsky to Pat Buchanan, Bishop Gumbleton, Ted Kennedy, David Duke, Cindy Sheehan, Jesse Jackson, Jim McDermott, Michael "Fat Bastard" Moore, Jimmy Carter, the French, various labor unions, and the NCC. I do admit the Libertarians have the best reasoning, and more than a few support us taking care of Iran.

As for Bush, there are two years left and he only won last time, because he ran against a subhuman douchebag. I voted for the Libertarian (Badnarik), because his views were closest to mine and he would work to bring down the Federal Government to 1920s level.

I agree about the endless lawsuits and litigation. Contingency based lawsuits should be banned, because they allow for frivolous claims, and there should be caps on awards, and maybe capital gains taxes on a trial lawyer's fees as well as incoem tax, though I support reducing capital gains taxes, but not for legal fees and awards :)

BTW, the only clown supporting a draft is Charlie Rangel, and I don't see it returning, unless Pelosi and Co. endorse it. Now, I do think anyoen wanting federal aid should have to earn the right somehow, but that is another matter to discuss.

Thomas, although we don't agree politically, I love your ideas about frivolous law suits and love that you love cats!

Well, that is good as I do love cats, though I may put a picture of Ted Kennedy or Jesse Jackson at the bottom of their kitty litter box :) And I discovered your from Irina's blog and she's teh right of me, but we all agree on how great cats are, though I also love reptiles :)

Thomas, in my life I've found out that it's impossible for me to be good friends with animal haters. It just doesn't work. I've got four in my small house. And, I adore all 4 of them!

Irina, that's where I first read your comments...I was wondering where we first met.

I can get along better with political opposites than people who hate animals!

Reptiles, though, are not my favorites I must admit. But I do adore birds!

I'm find with political differences as long as those with the differences are willing to discuss them calmly and rationally and keep an open mind about the facts (and back them up) like Mr. Forsyth here. Clear and level headed. It's the ones that go ranting about this and that and spouting retorick (sp?) that has no basis in fact. Ahh well. (those are the ones that are the most fun to get riled up I suppose.)

In other thoughts, i agree that lawsuits are wrong. You should check out the True Stella Awards by Randy Cassingham. he has a website and a newsletter that highlights in each issue a lawsuit that seems ridiculous. Fully researched. He also lists the urban legend "stella awards" and debunks them.

Last but not least, animals are the best therapy in my opinion. :) Stay tuned Mary, there shall be wedding pics (sukaspawn dressed like a red satin mushroom and the infamous gold shoes) from the wedding forthcoming soon... (probably tomorrow.)

Ilanna, oh god I can't wait for the pix, and I totally agree about differences in opinion being fine and illuminating actually --providing no one person feels they have a divine right to tell you you're stupid if you don't agree with them.

I need to see the red satin mushroom!!! Did you know satin and stain are anagrams? I just found out by mistyping...

Thomas is a good man and although our opinions on Iraq differ, I sure want him and everyone else to realize that never is it the soldiers who are differed with, it is always the politicians.

I have to agree with you. With all this crap in the world right now it can be hard to concentrate on the positive, it can get pretty depressing.
Your cats are so cute!

I am with you. I cannot believe Bush is trying to send even more troops to Iraq. We hasn't every single person in America taken to the streets in protest? It's an outrage. I for one am ecstatic to hear Hillary is running for president. I will vote for anyone democrat at this point but man would I love someone more liberal than Obama.
