The Iraq War: What's a Win Look Like?

I woke up thinking about the war again.

I envy people who seem to be able to hate the war, but put their thoughts into a neat little box that stays closed most of the time. I can’t tell you how often I wake up with a sinking heart remembering that it’s still going on.

Only this morning I woke up with a real question in my head that I would ask the prez if I could. Okay, so you say we have to win the war or we can’t leave. So what is it that constitutes winning the war?

Do Iraqis have to come out of the woodwork with their hands raised shouting I give up?

Do Iraqis have to flood the streets with white handkerchiefs waving over their heads?

Do they have to hand over all the rights to their oil to the USA?

Do they have to invite all the troops to tea and smile and say thank you?

Do they have to declare that suicide isn’t a good thing and they will stop doing it?

Do they have to say MY BAD over and over and ask for a Hershey bar or panty hose?

Do they have to shout out Long Live George Bush and chant We Love American Idol?

Do they have to get GAP charge cards?

Do they have to turn Baghdad into a tourist destination complete with Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Arbys?

Do they all have to be dead, in order for us to say WE WON? If not, how many casualties make up a win?

What the hell constitutes winning the war?

I need to know because apparently, our brave troops will be in the midst of that insanity until someone in charge declares that we won and now they can go home.

What makes up a win, do you know?

unfortunately, I don't think there can be a "win" it's too much like viet nam, which wasn't a war, it was a conflict. This also far as I know is not technically a war because congress has not declared war on Iraq. (which is how we get away with saying "we've never lost a war." sad isn't it?)

I don't know what would constitute winning, because the swiss cheese that is the Shrub's head doesn't know. It will always change to suit either the political moment as he and papa dick perceive it, *OR* it won't be until a "higher power" tells him he's accomplished his goal. Only way out of this at this point is going to be to wait out the shrub. Maybe someone will forget to water him? :)

For your amusement: From IMDB search on Julia Roberts - one of her personal quotes: "We all need to take a deep breath and think about being a Bush daughter and having that cross to bear. I'd go out and have a couple of drinks, too" - about President George W. Bush's daughters being caught with alcohol as minors.

No one will win this war it will morph into another problem and we'll go of searching for our terrorist contact lens where there is better light.

I dont have an answer for the war that is for sure.
I HATE this war and I wish it would go away. I support our troops all I can. I just dont see an answer, I hope we can let it go.

HI Marko...not a single person I know is for the war...I wonder where all the supporters are, surely not in my nighborhood, or family or friends.

And nobody, even online supporters, can tell me how we will know that we "won" the war.

You kill me..'How do we know when it's a win' are you serious. Have you been living under a rock?

Do you even have a clue? We know it is a win when:

We can go to sleep at night and not be afraid of another terroist attach.

When innocent women and children are not slaughtered because they speak in public.

I could go on and on but I don't think you get it..did you lose anyone in the Twin Towers or any of the hi-jacked aircraft?

The real question is what happens if we pull out now?

What happens is they think we are done..that we have gone home and they will come back and destroy something else with far more casualties here right in your own backyard and the war will come from Iraq to the US. Let me ask you do you have chidren? How woudl you feel if you got up tomorrow and turned on the radio and heard that a suicide car bomber parked a car om the street your family lived on and little children were killed when they were on their way to school? You are more dangerous than any terrorist! You are like a plague, filling others with propaganda..telling them what they want to hear. War is hell but it is also necessary...

Wonder who's side you would have been on in the Civil War..bet you would have been one of the people spitting on Vietnam Vets as they came back home..hell why even fight for America..you are a hypocrit.

You probably don't even believe in God but bet you celebrate Christmas and Easter don't you?

Why don't you get a life or better yet..give it up for your country..oh wait let me guess..you can't cause you have a hair appointment or a nail appointment and it would cramp your style.

When you and you family have sacrificed for this country, then and only then will your opinion matter!
