What do you think?

Can a cat move from floor to floor in a house through the walls or air ducts or some other bizarre way?

Case in point: The noise level is just atrocious in my house (and I'm soon leaving here to give my ears a rest,) and yesterday Finbar was gone all day long...no Finbar even after the men left and the house became quiet. We called and searched and still no Finbar.

Then 3 o'clock in the morning I heard scratching and a meow. I opened the cellar door and there he was covered in concrete dust.

We can't figure out how he got down there. Husband did go down to the beer fridge (which is impossible to get at as they put the door side up against a wall with crap in front of it) but, would Finbar follow him down? Wouldn't he want some food and water before going in the scary basement? And if he did follow him down at 6 PM why would he stay down there quietly until 3 AM?

I think he can get into the attic, which is why I wonder if from the attic he's found a way to travel around the walls of the house.

Or maybe I'm just going out of my mind from noise pollution.

Are your walls lathe and plaster? If so then I'd say he has his own special hidden passageway. Find it and block it. It's not safe for kitties. If the house was created before 1971 that may not be concrete dust but asbestos. Check to ensure he is not getting thru a heating grate. If he just followed to get a beer then he knows better now but I doubt it. He's a curious cat and a few hours downstairs is not enough. He's to handsome and difficult to clean to be poking around inside walls

Gavin, I think we've figured it out. It appears he did follow husband into the basement and then for some reason decided it was a great place to spend the evening. Last night he came down from his hiding place upstairs but doesn't seem to want to eat (worries). Husband fed him rare roast beef by hand and he ate a little but is totally spooked and filthy! I am hoping he didn't lick so much dust off his coat he's filled with concrete!

I will be so happy when this job is done: it's horribly expensive, dirty, inconvenient, scary, loud and I think I've lost hearing in both ears. What a dummy I just realzied I could put some ear plugs in which is nice for the ears but scares the hell out of me when someone just appears in my kitchen without warning!!

they wait till 3am because thats when you are sleeping and they can make the most noise... its quiet...

thats when my cat decides to scratch at my door :)

glad he is safe though. give him a day or two and if he isnt better take him to the vet.

Mini...I did jump ship quite a few times the past few days and go over to a neighbor's house which helped. I'm not kidding, it doesn't take much jackhammering before you feel woozy and nuts.

I noticed he's been to his "box" so that's good, but he won't appear until the noisy men are gone...

I am suffering for this poor skinny guy who is lugging all this concrete...what a way to make a living!!!!

Gavin..he's safe, very gray, but safe.

Mini - I keep forgetting how much money we are paying %7500 is not chicken feed. Too bad it's all going down the drains (so to speak) and pumps and concrete removal and concrete put it and crap everwhere.
