It's Time for Billionaires to Cough Up Some Big Dough

Even if a whole state blows up, washes away or burns down, I cannot donate one more cent so don’t ask.

I have been hit up for donations as if I had won the Powerball on Wednesday. Au contraire…no Powerball, not even a three number ticket. So I cannot give out anymore money to anyone for any reason.

Recently, I have given money to political candidates, animal rescue, cancer walk, leukemia fund, public radio, Katrina, school fundraisers, Fireman’s boot, and more…

I have given until it hurts. It does hurt now, because I also need to pay some bills and eat once and a while whether I want to or not.

The celebrities and CEO’s who are making a fortune need to pick up the slack here and donate some big money. They need to make donations for themselves and for those of us who have given until we are just about ready to ask for a handout ourselves.

So I call upon the people below to give until it hurts. Okay, just give until they’re down to one billion dollars which for them must be like me giving until I’m cashing in soda bottles to buy gas.

Give them a break. Most of these people are senior citizens. Do you know how much walkers cost nowadays?

But take heart. They'll all soon be dead, and have left their money to their heirs. I'm sure we can expect the likes of Paris and Nikki Hilton to be philanthropic with their richly deserved billions.

Here is a blog post, which I wrote a while ago, that somewhat applies.

And the subject of the post is a dumb fuck.

(Oh, and BTW, Paris Hilton auctioned off her diamond engagement ring – which she obviously doesn’t need anymore - for like $4 Million. All the money was donated to Hurricane Katrina relief. Not that I think Paris is great or anything, but at least she is giving something.)

Nilbo - the Hiltons will buy t-shirts for $86,000 a piece with:

"Stop Hurricanes Now Or I'm Going To Stomp My Foot"

created in hand sewn diamonds and rubies...

JDJ - Superb article - I loved it and don't know how I missed it. Your article blew my article away!

Your absolutely right MMM. I have a similar issue with donating but it's on a rinky-dink scale and because I said no, I've said the wrong thing.

AMK - oh yes, one can never say no, even if you are going to go bankrupt in the process.

Ex: In my neighborhood there are tons of children that go to the local elementary school. They all come to the door with their little brochures selling, gray chocolates, ugly wrapping paper, plastic "tchotchkes" etc. and the moms are mad if I don't buy from each and every kid, never mind the kids I have in my own immediate family...

How many poorly stored chocolates or ugly wrapping paper does a person have to buy to get to heaven?

M, it's the elementary school kid that I was speaking of! Long story, (perhaps a post because it's bothering me) it's enough already with the donations. The best thing about caller-ID is being able to not answer a lot of these calls.

Reading the incomes of those people actually made me start to gag...

About natural disasters...I recently wrote this on a blog...

I am tired of all of these natural disasters. Floods, Tsunamis, Hurricanes, Earthquakes…and other acts of nature…please go away! I am overloaded with worldly grief and guilt and I can’t handle any more suffering. We make enough suffering on our own...we don’t need Mother Nature’s help. We should also change the name to Father Nature…no woman would EVER screw up the Earth so badly!

AMK - yes, write about it..I'd love to read your story.

Doc - good idea, think i'll boycott Hiltons too...

Jac, where do you fall on the billionaire's list?

Right on top in my dreams.
I am afraid of it in real.

Here here! And they can give to a great charity. Me. :) I need law school tuition for next semester. I'll pay it back, really.

That is exactly how I feel when celebrities are auctioning off their stuff, appearing as "special guests" on fundraisers, etc., begging US for money. I'm a freaking student! It's not like I made $20M on my last movie, or I'm CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

We've got a law student and a med student who are spending gobs of money and time to give back to their community...and a bunch of paper pushers, just watching their bank balances grow with little or no intrinsic goodness to their jobs.

Argghhh Ms's E and E - you should donate nothing but be donated to...

Hope what I wrote makes sense - I only have 1/4 cup of coffee coursing through my veins, which equals foghead.

During a six hour drive lots of things can cross your mind.

One of them was; "Why can't we put a limit on personal wealth?"

Say 2million. People in California or wherever the cost of living is hightest, can still live comfortably off the interest.

Why do people need that kind of money?

Put the excess where it's needed.

Wenig - I thought the same thing only we can't say that aloud or we'd be accused of being communists!
