I'm bummed. I keep waiting to see Lon Chaney movies on TV and there aren't any. I am going to have to remember to get my own DVDs for next Halloween season as I love the old horror flicks from the 30s-50s. I especially love the "special effects" from the era...how creative!

I have not been able to get into the modern day horror movies -- just too bloody for my taste. I like the suspense type of horror movies...Hitchcock is another favorite of mine -- thankfully, his movies are on tv frequently.

I also have not done the corn maze this year, but there's still time.

Go Red Sox!

I prefer Bela Lugosi. But I hear you on them playing any old horror on TV.

I guess not enough people wanna see it. :^(

Hitchcock is teh bomb agreed, did you know his belly button was surgically removed? Well thats what I had read somewheres anyway.

I guess I like M. Night Shyamalan movies...They are more suspencey, less bloody.

What do you think?

I was never big on real horror movies - but i when i do watch them its the cheezy ones i like best. :)

I do *NOT* like a lot of blood or torture etc...

too me - something Like Jaws is the epitome of horror even though it isn't really classified that way. :)

Canopenner...notice the extra "n" I'm trying to spell right...I love Bela too, but the man of 1000 faces -- well you gotta love him! I didn't know (till a quick foray into Wiki) who M. Night Shyamalan was, but I certainly loved Sixth Sense. Will have to rent some of the others. I don't do movie theaters anymore..can't stand the manners of the other "viewers" who make my movie experience less than pleasurable...I want to shout SHUDDUPPPPP!!!!!!!!!

Ilanna, I'm not sure when suspense was exchanged for blood and gore, but it certainly is any easy way to get a gasp from the audience. I loved Jaws...still do, (first typing I spelled Jaws Jews hahahah which is also true by the way!!!) it's masterful and that sound..da duh da duh ...reminds me of the shower scene in Psycho...the ewwu ewwu ewwu sound that cut to my core more powerfully than a simulated stabbing...

Also Janet Leigh had on skin colored coverings over her bits, no real nudity, no horrible effects...except that substance going down the drain and her eye...wow...horror at its best!!

My response to this one is going to make me sound like an old fart. Im really a middle aged fart creeping towards old.
I sat in the living room with my 14 year old and 17 year old the other night (their girlfriends were over) and watched some current horror flicks. I was pretty repulsed by them. I have never liked them, but while on a date they did serve the purpose of getting your date to jump towards you for safety :) Are we desensitizing our kids by allowing them to watch? I remember at the age of about 19 or so coming home from the drive in with my friends scared to death to walk to the house. We had just watched American werewolf in London. If I watch it today it is really funny because the effects are not very lifelike anymore. Am I desensitized as well? What will they consider stupid when they are creeping into their 40s?

Jeff, we were just talking about exactly what you have pointed out...what makes something dated, or sappy, or stupid?

Will the horror movies of today be quaint and laughable in 40 years? I guess yes, but I'm not sure if any of today's movies will be tomorrow's classics.

Perspective, it's a good bad thing.
