The Spirit of Giving!

Every year around this time I pick a charity or sometimes just a certain bell-ringer in front of a store to share my grand wealth with. It's usually just ten dollars or so, but at least it's something. Not being a rich woman by any means, I'd give more if I could, because giving makes you feel good inside and also it warns off bad mojo and gives you a step up closer to the pearly gates (when the time comes, of course.)

This year my donation went to myjewelthief.com.

I purchased seven blinking jelly rings for stocking stuffers at a buck a piece, and I certainly wasn't expecting fine jewelry, but I did expect they'd work. Only 4 of the 7 worked at all (you squeeze them to make them light up and squeeze them to shut them off.) Two or three were dangerous to squeeze as a sharp metal wire? could stick you in the finger when you squeezed them...I know I got a prick from one of the little buggers. Of course you know where they were made.

With shipping, these items came to over $11. In order to get my money back I'd have to do a variety of things costing me more time, money and aggravation that it's worth and the store's return policy seems translated from Swahili and the email messages I got back when I complained were not customer friendly. The hell with the cheap nonworking rings and the eleven bucks, I say. (But if you were thinking about buying blinking rings, don't buy these!)

This year my holiday donation has gone to MYjewelTHIEF.com. Enjoy and happy holidays!

--------------------------------

All my other holiday shopping has been very pleasant and Amazon.com has gone way up on my list. (Of course, I'm still waiting for many items to be shipped -- but so far so good.) eBay has also been a pleasurable experience with no hassles and quality merchandise.

Check out "mountain-iron" on eBay for lovely metal art. Also, they were very nice and friendly to do business with which is appropriate when you are spending money, even a measly 11 dollars.

If you're looking for books, CDs or DVDs I always check out half.com first. I've bought numerous items from half.com and have always been happy with the results.

That's my online experience so far...mostly good, except some Santa somewhere won't be getting money from me this year because I already gave online.

-----------------------------------

A great quote from Cassandra (writer who I never heard of) from the N Y Times Acrostic puzzle: TURKEY HAS PRACTICALLY NO TASTE EXCEPT A DRY FIBROUS FLAVOR REMINISCENT OF WARMED-UP PLASTER AND HORSE HAIR. THE TEXTURE IS LIKE WET SAWDUST AND THE WHOLE VAST FEATHERED SWINDLE HAS THE PIQUANCY OF A BOILED MATTRESS.

I love this quote although I do not agree! Turkey is one of my favorite things to eat...especially Thanksgiving dinner with all the lovely vegetables, nuts, candies and desserts!

Amazon recently annoyed me. It's a policy annoyance. I ordered some batteries that i needed for my camera - and got the total so i could take advantage of free shipping. Well, After 4 days it still hadn't shipped and when I looked, it said it wasn't going to ship for another 3 days, and on top of that - wouldn't arrive for another week to 2 weeks after that. Soon as I upgraded to 2 day shipping - gee... it went out that afternoon and I had it right when I needed. The policy of holding orders on low priority that don't pay for DHL, or FEDEX, or UPS i find is just poor customer service. (sigh) just my pet peeve.

My Donation this year was to a boxer who was left alone in a vacant house. He was found after 6 weeks of no food or water, emaciated down to 30lbs. He is getting all the care he needs now and is doing well with the rescue group so it's a happy ending. Even happier, they now have vet records for the dog and know who his owner was and now can track him down and Charge him to the fullest extent of the law.

Happy Holidays folks.

p.s. i agree about turkey - not my FAVORITE - but I've made some truly delicious turkeys. (the trick is the herbed butter UNDER the skin and roasted breast side down)

Let's see we have one vote for turkey (mini) and one against (ilanna) - Re Amazon, I bought the prime membership last year and almost everything comes in 2 days with free shipping - so I cannot complain...I did have problems prior to buying the membership though...and a tough time with customer service too.

Poor doggie...I hope they get the bastard who did that to him!!!!

Im going to go out on a limb here and expose my non worldliness to everyone. What does one do with a blinking jelly ring when it does function as designed? Thank you in advance for the enlightenment.

I love Amazon.com (not an original sentiment, I know), especially now that the Canadian dollar is kicking the bejeesus out of the US buck. It's kinda comical - I can order from Amazon.ca (the Canadian branch of Amazon.com) and buy a book for 34.95. Or I can buy the identical book from Amazon.com for 22.95. Back when the exchange rate favoured the US dollar by about 40 cents, this MIGHT have made SOME sense. But now? Not so much.

When our kids were in school, every year we'd have them buy a toy for a women's shelter and, rather than give their teacher a coffee cup or tin of chocolates, they'd donate the toy in the teacher's name. Win/win/win.

Jeff, a non working jelly ring has no value...not even as much value as an empty beer can. (We can get 5 cents for that!)

Hi Linda...turkey is so good I wonder why I don't cook it more often. Now it's too close to T-day to make one so I should be really really in the mood for turkey by then! I will stop by for sure.

Bradley -- I think that was my favorite line too...I will have to look up this Cassandra person as I like her humor...I think she's a she...Cassandra is a pen name.

Nilbo...that's ridiculous - they must still think the American dollar is hot shit when it's not. Another thing about Amazon is they have "storefronts" and you really have to look around the site to get the best price. Last year I bought an old-fashioned hand crank ice cream maker...I had many choices on how much I wanted to pay. So, after a nano second of deliberation I bought the cheapest one hahahah

You've been tagged with a "7 things about you" meme on my blog!

And I LOVE the turkey quote... though if you cook it right it can be deliciously succulent. Yumm, can't wait to see what my mom will cook up next week!

Hi David, thanks for stopping by. The Nest is one of my favorite blogs! I'm overjoyed to have a visitor from down under! (I say nix the jelly rings unless you see one in person and it works and has no sharp parts!)

Irina, I'll be coming by for the meme...I haven't done one in a long time!!
